NPL 2025

Question for you Beretta:

Why is there the Waratah Cup and the Bill Cullinan Cup? I remember years ago, the likes of Hanwood and Yoogali used to enter the "State Cup", which I came to find out a few years later was actually called the Bill Cullinan Cup, and not the Waratah Cup (with the 'junior' versions of the Bill Cullinan Cup just called the "State Cup" - or for the U21s, the Robertson Cup).

TBH, i've never heard of the Bill Cullinan Cup.

i know there is a "state cup" in NSW but that's only for Premier League teams within their associations

Association All Age knock out comps.
The State, Robertson and Bill Cullinan Cups knockout tournaments are conducted by Football NSW for Association based male and female club teams

cracking goal to win it, a good curtain raiser to the championship.

what was the official attendance?
Unsure officials attendance

I said just under 1k of our supporters

South's end doesn't look "fully on camera but when you're there they have heaps on the concourse area behind the seats.

My guesstimate would 3 - 3.5

Great turnout for a Sunday 5pm.

Yeah I reckon about that 3.5 to 4k was my "guesstimate"

Gutted but what a cracker of a goal to win a rivalry match.

Thought south were the better side overall.

Shame only 1 bar open on our side took ages to get a bev.

All together great atmosphere. Great footy and a well organised night

Hopefully the souvs are better next time haha
Thanks to your club for travelling in numbers.... Great, intense match, what rivalries are supposed to be... BIt sketchy to start, a few agro players lashing out, some tense goals and a belter to finish the night.... Loved the flares and the fireowrks from Preston and the chanting.... no dramas, no agro between fans.... this Championship has rejuvenated both of us and is just what was need for football in this country..... see you guys next time :)

To be honest - it's probably the same thing

But that might make sense - I guess kind of like a "League Cup"/"FA Cup" in England sort of set-up?

and its turning to the usual good ol suspects.
Damn SU recovery has been damn good !
Marconi miles ahead in GA yet just 3 ahead, bet they feel lucky they got SO coming up.
Next week Marconi/SU/APIA should keep the momentum going.

2-2 away to St George Budapest. Felt more like a loss than a draw. Tsekenis had chance to make it 3-1 fairly late the game, missed an open goal from 5 yards out. St George with an injury time equaliser as a surprise electrical storm hit out of nowhere which resulted in the suspension/abandonment of all the other games around the grounds, I assume the ref continued with our match because it was so close to finishing.

Marconi had the better of the play, and have some key players out, but still feels like we’re not playing as well atm, can sense some frustration from key players who are either frustrated with their own performances or the teams in general. Costanzo straight down the tunnel after being subbed off mid way through the second half.

Rockdale ilinden now top of the league on goal difference after Marconi lead the comp by 8 points at one stage

Sydney Olympic v Marconi this Saturday at kogarah. Would have liked to get down but might be tough. Interested to see what a regular Olympic match day at kogarah feels like since it seems as though that will be their home going forward. I thought it was quite good for the Sydney Olympic v south Melbourne friendly which I attended a few years back, but that was obviously a bigger than average crowd

Was good this, watched the second half when I got home from the Marconi game. Also good to see South Melbourne with the traditional kit and traditional crest, should be a permanent thing imo

yes why I mentioned fortunate playing a struggling SO next, Kogarah I still can't fathom them at the ground BUT SO have been used to sharing grounds forever and a day.
Amazing after all this time they didn't get their own ground elsewhere after so many years of the politcs and fighting at Belmore be it council and the Dogs.
Should get a good turn up as long as no rain.

Your end was about half full which is 1200.

Our side is harder to guess because of the standing areas and vips. I was one of those standing behind the seats and it was packed all the way across, the balcony above me was absolutely full going 4-5 deep. The problem is it does nothing for the broadcast because all you see are bays of empty white seats, can confidently say if those standing + vips chose to occupy those seats it would have been full.

Whatever the number was mate, it was great night out for both sets of supporters ..... The boys on the pitch put on a show, as did the fans from both sides... I know its a horrible cliche but football really WAS the winner....

My only hope is that we get some of those casuals back again next Sunday for the Thunder match....

We may get a solid crowd next week as well. Depending on weather may push 4 figures. Back to 300 after that im afraid.

The Australia cup (if we get home tie) and Sydney Olympic in October are our next "national" tests.

Lets be honest bugger all are driving out to lakeside on the Friday following the next game to watch us play Hume.

Hopefully some exciting new additiond are added to the squad.
