OFC Professional League

This is weird

Huge incentive though since the best team gets 80mil in funding from the club world cup every 4 years (assuming they win the cl)

FA apparently fully behind the venture

Which seems terrible timing given the nst??

Hopefully the f8 dont join but its instead some weird franchise?

Maybe FA can't say anything else at risk of pissing off the entire OFC region. Sounds like we'll find out more on Tuesday night.

Frankly, I think it's time to bring back Darwin Cubs for this...

I meant that as a joke, but as I was typing it I kinda thought... hang on, why not? This could actually be mutually beneficial. Darwin is a little bit below NPL level, and the travel/cost factor won't matter if FIFA will pay for it. Hmm...

I mean if it didnt jeopardize the nst id be quite happy for an east cost aussie club to join

Could do an arrangement that if you qualify for the club world cup you get invited to the a league if you build a stadium. Can gradually get private stadia this way

wouldnt mind seeing central queensland/darwin/coffs appear cause they're probably too small for an a-league team

serious question though - what happens when rockhampton fc qualify for the club world cup and all of a sudden can build the best football stadium in australia in the middle of no where :D

Exactly my thoughts. Add north Queensland too if the keep being cut-off by FQ. One or two FQ post season knockout matches don't count.

I'm thinking about clubs that might be too small even for NST.

I'm warming to it to be honest, though it depends on the details

if fifa are funding it, would be mad to turn the noses up at the investment, particularly with club world cup spots possible and the insane cash involved

No pre-existing Oz club would succeed in joining this thing bc the FFA/APL and the AFC would bar them from doing so.

The comp’s only sure bet would be to create Australian-based sides from scratch that wouldn’t actually be affiliated w/Oz football ala the Nux and AKL’s relationship to NZ football. It definitely opens a door to rejected A-League expansion bids that wasn’t there before💡

I think it is an interesting idea. I am not sure too many Australian teams would be too interested in it. But you never know. I do like the idea of them reaching out to explore if there is any interest here. I am a big supporter of helping the OFC and countries nearby.

Its seems that the FA is all for it though... Curious to know what discussions have been had, Im assuming FIFA would throw money at it if they are really interested...

I'd be surprised it FIFA were not interested in it as any growth and strengthening of the game in the OFC will be a benefit to them

The money on offer is far too good to pass up ... There will be existing clubs champing at the bits to get onto this.. Dont be surpriseed if it is one of the franchises.

the thing to be weary of is, if the money is really good atm, will it always remain so? or is it s big splash to get it setup and then will it be left to wither on the vine? like is the backing of the proposed league sustainable. I guess we will wait and see.

Yeah dude but even if it is only for 1 season... 50 mill is NOT to be sneezed at....

New update

No update on how many teams, when it would start, how many Oz teams and eligibility for club world cup
I hope this goes ahead... would be madness seeing Aussie clubs below Aleague with budgets 10 x times those of the Aleague.

The Pro League is set to kick off in January as an eight-team competition featuring clubs from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) region and possibly a franchise from Australia. The first intake is expected to include two New Zealand teams.
