Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Tonight’s cup match was truly appalling. We struggled to defeat the Pascoe Vale Under23 side. We just sat there knocking the ball side to side, showing no real attacking edge. Those misses by Inglese and Bonada were easier to score than miss.

Tonight’s match highlighted once again how poor the depth of our squad is. There are a number of players who started tonight that are simply not NPL quality, and would be better suited to VPL football.

Here we are - into the quarter finals of the Dockerty Cup and possibly 90 minutes away from qualifying for the Australia Cup.

I switched over to the other game and cant for the life of me understand how Brunswick City has better players and plays beautiful football compared to us, they battered Dandenong City and were so unlucky. I felt guilty for wanting them to lose because seeing Leonidas smash us at Dunston reserve would have been a new low...but i guess it may be coming next year.

Very worried about this Sundays game.
I think you like to worry mate.... :P Second half last night saw us string together some beautiful flowing football through the lines with players who didnt belong on the first team.... the casualties are coming back and squad is being bolstered.... things WILL improve.

Agree regarding the depth.. Recruitment is 80% to blame for where we find ourselves this season... The "balcony bros" are all pointing the finger at other directions but fact is they ALL stuffed up this off season. Lets see what this promised batch of season saving transfers looks like .... I even heard the comment that we will be aiming for finals this year... hahahahahahahahahaha

As for the Dockerty Cup, its not un conceivable to make the final..... lets just wait and see eh?

I am gonna by up in Brissie most of next week so can't make the EGM but if anyone is going the following NEED to be answered - in no particular order.

1) What is going on with OCL submission
2) Is the Championship full H and A in 2026
3) What is the plan for a real coach?
4) Why aren't we signing off contract Aleague players NOW like some others NSD clubs apaprently are (Fornarolli to Avondale is a mind blower)
5) What is being done to secure players that will save our relegation concerns... nevermind the end of year mini champions league thingy.
6) what was the kitchen at the social club closed AGAIN after the match ... I was starving after going tot eh match straight from home?

The situation regarding the kitchen is just mind blowing.

Most, if not all VIC football clubs manage to sell food post match with great ease and it generates revenue! You have a captive audience that wants to give you their money !

It ain’t that hard to sell hot chips, dim sims, hot dogs, potato cakes and any other basic hot food item.

Just like last night. Afew people stayed back to watch the Brunswick vs Dandy game. Some chips, dimmies and potato cakes would of gone down nicely...

The social club design limits how well it can function as a food venue. The design isn’t great, the kitchen isn’t well equipped with the equipment inside to deal with a big crowd and the overall design makes it a massive mess. In busy times back when it opened, you’d have lines crouch out around tables where people were sitting, it was chaotic.

It should’ve been a mix of a seating, dining area for families and then an open bar area for others to congregate.

Part of it is the fact that it’s limited by the lack of floor space, it’s not the biggest facility. That’s also what hampers the kitchen.

The clubs tried outsourcing it many times but most clubs who outsource, ultimately- the quality is never great. The clubs that succeeded with food- Bentleigh in the old days, Nunna did some great food, Paco Vale with their Pizzas, Malvern a few years ago, they all had a few committee and board members getting involved in the running of the canteens.

Ours of course won’t do that, they are suits they don’t like getting their hands dirty but the club ought to actually give a fuck and try run a canteen. Find a meat sponsor you can get tonnes of kreas at good price like a lot of other clubs have done, and run it yoruself. Canteens are a great source of revenue and if the club runs it itself instead of some other operator jacking up the price to afford South’s rent, the experience would be better and worthwhile, plus it’d be a little cheaper too.

Boggles me how South cant nail simple fucken basics. And I know they read this forum too, so they’re aware of the feedback from everyone in here.

No one is asking for Michelin star dining but the basics of a canteen is all that we are asking for.

Dont even need fancies like tomato and onion ... done :)
