I really dislike this system except perhaps v Japan, Korea and Saudi away. I'd much prefer a more progressive system offensively in most other scenarios. A 4-1-3-2 or 4-3-3 or the like.

The system in theory is a 3-2-5 in possession which is very common in most systems around the world especially at the top level, it counters the 4-4-2 quite well too.
It ables to play with two No.10s in between the lines especially you want to progress the ball centrally.
The con is it can be used negatively especially if teams set up in a back 3 defensively unlike most teams who still use a back 4 out of possession but a back 3 can easily turn into a back 5 and your width is limited if the wingbacks cant get further forward.

In terms of the Socceroos, it works well especially with the centre backs options we had until this window and the use of a Jordan Bos would be very effective as a wingback but I think we are lacking in the two attacking midfield options so it will be interesting to see who Popa picks based on those positions.

Just don't think we got the cattle to play this way. We don't have anyone good in tight areas. Without a decent WB driving to the byline its going to be very difficult. I almost would like us to played inside forwards let Goodwin and Boyle cut inside and shoot. I love Yengi but he's just came back he needs rhythm for these big games he might only get 1 or 2 chances.

I think Arzani and Tilio can play in those positions which is why they in the squad.

However your point I feel Popa is putting the system first over the type of players we have so he’s trying to make the players play he’s way which is club football 101 in the rule book of coaching.

Which is why Trevor Morgan’s u20 were so refreshing, they play to the players characteristics without shoehorning them into a system of play.
