And by the by, Tasmanian stadium estimate has climbed to $945 million, up from $700m and they haven't put a shovel in the ground yet.

Hilarious when you also hear even football fans say we ‘should stand on our own two feet’

The fact is afl has gotten where it is from billions in government handouts. We deserve the same.

All the fund from governments for stadiums lead to massive growth for the AFL in the past.
 
The truth is that we dont deserve an ounce of the same respect bc we could never even get our own house unified let alone make demands that we be viewed as equal stakeholders.. the AFL despite its shortcomings is unified on this stuff even if they cant agree on other things at club level...

"We" still exclude 'our own' passionately for the sake of those that still see us a foreign sport and wouldnt/havent ever prioritised our best interests ... worse still those same ppl are the ones that remain the staunchest proponents of the closed league, exclusion mentalilty but demand the same respect as the AFL.

Thats the hard truth of it all

Though we could stand on our own feet accepting the closed league will not prevail and prosper using stads that do not suit the current numbers plus the added ongoing franchise running costs.
It just is a woeful business model for all to see clutching at straws.
Stand on your own and utilising the grounds like Perry and the many 10k give or take grounds is affordable and viable working towards an open comp in X time.
We currently have a so called nice looking euro car with a 2cyc engine or next to nothing under the bonnet.
We don’t deserve the same whatsoever whilst football as a whole is a basket case but we can work to build the respect prosper and then put your hand out.

Football is the most popular game in the country. It's not a complete basket case. FOr example, the womens team is australia's most popular sporting team. Professional leagues have issues.

When AFL got all the handouts in the 90s they had criminals inside the clubs ffs.

IMO we should demand more.

This is the point, the AFL never had their house in order qhne they got all the first handouts.

Football in this country never will. People don't want it to succeed. Lot;s of people only want it for their own selfish purposes.

From what I saw see it still had a better product and vision And better/smarter melb mafia admin of the times to arrange those crook deals to begin with.
That’s all that mattered and obviously times have changed we missed that crook boat it’s can’t work that way as easily anymore.
You got to prove your worth now for it’s far more open today for we are not on theirs or nrls level of exposure and market share.

You are quite right. Way back in the 70s people from the establishment (Aylett, Oakley, etc.) and then the 90s (Kennet, Brumby, etc.) had the political and business connections to rescue the VFL and establish the AFL. The greatest move was to neuter the clubs and district sporting bodies to enable the AFL to be marketed as a single integrated product. This worked well for the AFL clubs and even the metropolitan districts but it was dire for the regional, WAFL & SANFL.
FA now has Stephen Conroy on its corner but not even the Lowy's were able to make the state organisations work together.

Thats what we mean by "standing on our own two feet" though... We should demand more but dont because we aren't as organised and connected as AFL or NRL... thats on US not them...
