I thought I read the pitch could be juicy.
You did DC. That means a 'green top' or seamers deck which can provide more bounce, grip and swing for the ball, leading to an unpredictable and lively contest. Opening is specially difficult on a green pitch before the sun can dry any surface moisture and the ball softens.

Australia still yet to name their second opener and the match begins tomorrow. At the very least we need to make it a l/r combination, so is good both candidates are r/handers. Marnus' defense against the moving ball worries me somewhat plus it is a massive occasion for Sam Konstas the better technician of the two. Or will selectors pull a swifty and return the legend Steve Smith to see off the red cherry.

I don't want Labu to be selected at all.

He has averaged something like 30, 20, 25 in the last three years of Test cricket.

Selectors are rewarding mediocrity.

Agree Marnus needs to be dropped. Will this be the time?? I'm not sure they will be brave enough.

For me the line up is chosen it's just whether or not Marn or Sam opens.

Manus/Konstas
Khawaja
Green
Smith
Head
Webster
Carey
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Australia XI: Usman Khawaja, Marnus Labuschagne, Cameron Green, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Beau Webster, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood

They went with the experienced guy. Massive pressure now on Marnus Labuschagne to deliver. Also not sure why our legend Smithy is not #3 and Cameron Green #4 because if an early wicket falls the West Aussie will be virtually opening and if he too goes cheaply we could be looking at a worst case scenario of 3- for 50. C'mon you nong selectors Cam Green has always batted in the middle order so why saddle him with added pressure given he has just missed an entire Test season. Two baffling calls by Bailey and co. As I predicted Josh Hazlewood returns to his spot left warm by Scott 'Barrell' Boland. Well at least they got that call correct.

I saw a noticeable change in Cameron Greens approach in England in the off season where he scored three County centuries in his five matches He showed more intent at the beginning of his innings. In the past he has looked to be a nervy starter which a cluey bowler exploited by applying more pressure, thus impacting on his scores. This was borne out in the time it took the giant all rounder to score his first international 100. Now that he is learning to turn that pressure back onto the bowler, I can see him reaching another level over the next 12 months..

Only pic I can find of the Lords pitch. A 'green top' but that was taken two days ago.

I don’t think Labu should have been selected.

It rewards 3 successive seasons of failure.

Stringbean Jansen. Looks like he'd break in two in a strong wind.:ROFLMAO:
