The Ange at Tottenham Thread

Would be lovely to see Ange in South America. Boca, River Plate, Palmeiras, Atl Nacional, Colo Colo you get the jist even the CAF with the big boys Al Ahly, Zamalek, Raja, Wydad, Esperance, Mamelodi etc. Win a trophy in every confed while on Levy's payout dime.

But for pure shits and giggles it would have to be CONEMBOL's Lota Schwager or Wanka.

There’s a Strawwwww Maaaaaaaaaan,
Spouting down the page,
Telling us that Ange

Strawwwww Maaaaaaaan,
Says he’s never won abroad—
Though even when we show him
He just doubles down on wrong...
There’s a Strawwwww Maaaaaaan,
Yelling down the online void,
Grasping every thread
That he can jump on to destroy…
Let the useless lose it,
Let the forum use it,
He acts like children Luuuupiiiiiiiii

In October 2024 he insisted that Tottenham’s league performance should be regarded as the “most meaningful” measure of his side’s progress.

Ange Postecoglou 2023-24: meet Ange Postecoglou 2025. The coach who promised to attack in all circumstances, who disdained the transformative effect of a single trophy, has just won a trophy with the lowest possession recorded in a European final because sometimes – as he put it in Bilbao – “you have to change your approach”. A coach who urged us to judge him on the league now no longer judges himself on the league.

A coach who blames Tottenham’s abject league performance on a freak injury crisis also takes no responsibility for that injury crisis, for a style of play in which Tottenham comfortably spend more time in high-intensity sprints than any other Premier League team. A coach who claims he takes no notice of what is said and written about him has spent a suspiciously high proportion of this season reacting to things that have been said and written about him.

Beyond this there is an enduring fascination to Postecoglou, the animal magnetism of the true ideologue. He came to the Premier League with no great reputation or playing record behind him. Tactically, he offered little groundbreaking or novel beyond a hard-running, hard-chasing dogma in which the only solution to every problem is to believe harder in the dogma.

I don't think we know how Ange stacks up in Europe until he goes to a different club. It seems evident however Ange wasn't a good fit for Tottenham as his style is very demanding, thus requiring squad depth and the right players. It seems Levy at this point wants a pragmatic approach, with the goal of developing youngsters. If Frank can "compete on all fronts" with that squad that would be dream come true however unlikely.

5th in his first season (with this new format, it will be rare that the 5th English teams doesn't qualify for the UCL) and won a Europa League title. Plenty of other "world class" managers haven't been able to win a trophy with Tottenham in 17 years. Despite all this, we still have people on here, Australians, who don't believe he is a good coach. He got to the EPL for a reason and it wasn't paying his way in like some people may pay to get their kids in a NPL team.

I love a club that thinks 'competing on all fronts' is just winning a certain number of games each season and not winning any trophies...I mean it's hard for it to be anything other than sad really.

there are levels

Premier League isn't his

... his style is very demanding, thus requiring squad depth and the right players. ...

Maybe Ange's style is too demanding, and that it's all speed and no brains. Whereas maybe other top managers might not need to play 90 minutes of non-stop speed, making up for it with adaptability and tactics (rather than the accusation against Ange that he was a one-trick pony, easily found out by top calibre coaches in the Premier League).

I believe, as many others in the Media do as well, that two seasons in a row with most of his 1st team injured was not "bad luck" but a direct consequences of Ange's methods used at the highest Premier League level. Because in the Premier League, where the other Premier League teams are already so fast compared to lower level football, it means that Ange-ball at Premier League level has to be insanely fast (i.e. stupidly fast). Hence, not sustainable over the course of a Premier League season.

We’ve talked about Angeball in the thread long before - it is/was no faster than Klopps full on pressing his first 4/5yrs - also playing out from the back far quicker than slow build ups that is evident and quoted by players and many under Slotball.
Comes down to quality of the squad and depth - LFC has had more quality to sustain the heavy metal game as called and suffered injuries to a degree earlier might I add.
Injuries like to Ange caused us some grief like losing VDV when we lost VVD for some games put us under a lot of pressure and lost composure.
Anges toll with injuries was heavy his trouble was for sometime not to back off Angeball.

To be honest I think Angeball failed to adapt to the big leagues and the squad wasn't built for such an intensive style of play, which led to the injury crisis which Spurs experienced. If Angeball was ever going to be successful it had to adapt to the league and the style of play had to match the opposition, not the other way round.
