The Australian Championship Thread

@LFC is the name change to Wests APIA FC only for the Championship?
YES at this stage yep - as I quoted in the other thread we wait and see ahead.
It is a new joint venture for Wests Ashfield, whose equity stake is in APIA Leichhardt Football Club Limited, a publicly listed company created specifically for the Australian Championship, and separate from the grassroots club.

Sadly I expect the $ Wests have in time the name change will come, in reflection I guess having a big supporter/sponser as such for years ahead TR was always pinning for something like this to grow the club more so get it more secure.
Balmain does have Jnr football teams in the local comps.
Balmain & District Football Club
Jnr's to Snrs.

The Wests $$'s and now share holder may in the future help get the Lambert Park grandstand finally get approved and built.

I'm just telling you my point of view. Aki was asked right in front of me if we we're going to be applying for that new league, he said no we don't think it'll be a success so we're not going to waste our time and money on it.

This was ages ago though, so whether things have changed or not, I don't know. Did Oakleigh apply to join the league at the start? If they didn't, then i think he's telling the truth.
The reality is he's going to need the support from foundation clubs to enter the league...i.e. Preston and South...yes I can really see Nick and David welcoming Aki with open arms!!

Why would he need their support? Unless I'm wrong, Oakleigh never applied to join this league, so quite frankly i don't think they care if they support them or not, they don't want in this league, atleast not yet.

Sometime back I posted of The Clean Sheet NST survey that took place with just 100 odd participants, mainly Syd/Melb it seems......
I can't recall I put up the results that were posted back on June 21 having just sussed it out myself.
Thought it would be fitting to review whilst were back and forth on this important subject.

Sadly they probably will, Frantically rushing to open for the last round of the season against South, shouldn't have a problem reaching 1000 capacity against us .... Not many home fans of course so not sure what they are going to with it for the next year? :).
Highly doubtful it'll reach anywhere near 1,000, it's a dead rubber game. Your team can't make finals, we're already making finals, nothing on the line to play for, Oakleigh will most likely probably throw this game away in preparation for finals anyway. Will be lucky to have 500 there.

I think Sydney Olympic did similar setting up a new entity for the Championship, protecting the original club.

I highly doubt it was a league sustainability issue as much as a oakleigh monetary one like it was for Bergers and Knights, but again what else would he say??
You could never meet the criteria set if the above clubs couldnt. Hume didnt, nor did Georgies etc.
Thet list of aspirants for the championship are give or take known, Oakleigh was not amongst them!

If we are being honest, rightly so mind you within the contexts of reality, Oakleigh doesnt bring anything at all to the Championship, local NPL Vic is its limit, nothing wrong with that, experiments like Oakleigh would only hurt the comp long term due to lacknof crowds etc.

Thats a fair call, he did say the same last year and have heard the same sentiment from people on the Oakleigh board this year... Mind you that was when they still had influence( a rather large influence) on the FA VIC board .... Sadly for the "Bourdeliarides" when it comes to having to actually play football on the pitch its a bridge too far for them to be competitive.... never mind, Im sure your franchise team may do well this year, you can talk about them with anyone willing to listen.

Yeah I know quite a few of us are meeting up to watch the match on Youtube.... Might drive past Jack Edwards just to let the lads on the pitch know we still love them and to thank them, for the season. I havent decided if Im even going to bother yet.... Ive got enough football left this year to look forward to, dont enjoy giving a dollar to those peasants.

No one of the very first criteria for clubs wanting to express an interest is that they are... football clubs, men's team, women's team, junior sat all age levels for both etc, etc...

And that's okay, we know Oakleigh isn't a big club, they'd bring legitimate competition to the new league but not crowd numbers. If local Vic is it's limits, then that's fine, most of us are happy to just go on a Friday, watch the game, talk abit of shit and eat a souvlaki, we're not expecting to be in the top league.

That also opens up another question though, what if a small club from npl dominates and is far better competition/viewing compared to the clubs in the new league, should they come in to that league knowing they play quality football? Or is it too much of a burden to carry a team with hardly any fans.

Thats good to hear.. People and clubs should understand their limitations.... If they dont have any aspiration to be more than a vanity project then thats fine ... enjoy your life, hopefully we'll finally part ways and not have any interaction with them sooner rather than later.

You do you mate. If you can look past all the political bs and just go enjoy the game and have fun watching your boys play, then great, have a good time. It's your time and money, but i wouldn't let the political side of things ruin your enjoyment of the sport. Isn't this the last game of South Melbourne being in the npl? I guess that might be worth going for alone, i don't know.

Its not really a matter of politics as much as it is morals and scrupuls I would say, and its hard to not let that blur any interactions especially given ppl like Aki and co.

Mono does have it right though we are certainly not all the same, and some of us maintain our aspirations to get to where we belong, which is the pinnacle of football in Oz along with atleast another 7 thus far..

I also have no doubt and we do agree that we should all enjoy the moment of what is, and that means our team week in week out no matter where they playing!

It's hard for me to relate, so I'll never understand where you are coming from, but i can do my best to try make sense of it.

I'm a big AFL fan and seriously dislike Essendon due to the drugs saga, i hope they fold one day but I'll still go their home games when my team plays them.

In the a league, i seriously dislike the Adelaide United fans, sick of the abuse we cop everytime we go there, sick of having beer spit and piss thrown at my face, but i still make the trip to Adelaide to support my team and enjoy hopefully a good game.

I don't hate any teams in the npl, so i just go to any game that i feel like going to, even Lakeside.
