Don't worry I doubt anyone here mistook you for a die hard supporter of any club. You came looking for some :banter: without truly understanding the animosity from those who bleed for their clubs ... it happens. No "type" of football fan is more or less worthy than the other but perhaps understand the position you are defending before throwing words around unceremoniously.

As I said, something weird happened to the people at Oakleigh... how or more importantly why, who knows?
No i might not be a die hard, but i believe i am a realistic fan though. Seeing how delusional and weird you South fans are though, is hilarious, so yes banter with you lot is entertaining. With South in this new league, we might get to see them relagated once again, yay! 😋

Metrostars from SA whilst not a particularly interesting opponent off the field are looking like a tough opponent, looking like a strong team. On current form Sydney united will have to be careful they don’t miss out on a finals spot. Is it top two who go through?

i got no doubt APIA and Metrostars will both progress on our current from lol

I've never even seen any arguments or anything at the games, i thought we probably just had a friendly rivalry until id seen the animosity on this forum.
No real gameday animosity because you dont have enough numbers to cause it. The one person i do know who was a South fan in the vpl/nrl era who switched over to you lot tends to keep his mouth shut.

The issue is for whatever reason the Greek clubs on your side of town with your mob being the flagship have this desire to be some sort of "new South", its cringe and embarassing as its caused by the people running these clubs, they're delusional.

It has nothing to do with winning and losing, at some point every Greek club has embarassed us over the past 20 years. A good eg is Northcote who humiliated us in a semi final and then won the title. The difference is they beat us but dont behave like they're bigger than us, they know where they sit in the pecking order, they dont pretend like they dont have past affiliations with South like those in your club. As a result relations are good, they always give us their best players because they respect we are a bigger club and we give back when we can. If South try sign anyone from Oakleigh it turns into ww3 with your head honchos turning into mafia bosses. These same tossers had corporate boxes at lakeside back in the day and always sucked up to South. They're assholes! By all means compete against South, try beat South, but dont behave like fuckwits.

I had a small soft spot for Oakleigh when i was a kid cos i saw them as a little brother club of South, i dont know if it was the rise of Eaton Mall which coincided with the end of the nsl or something but this desire to "overtake" South became apparent quite early on and everyone could spot it from a mile away.

Not political at all... I have supported every single NPL club we have faced and, in the last decade alone, I reckon Ive been away to over 20-25 different NPL clubs around Victoria, paid my entry, bought food and drink, engaged with the home fans, had a laugh, cheered on my team and been made to feel welcome and respected... Clubs who are dreaded rivals, with fans who give us a very very hard time and often hostility during the match tend to be the most authentic, respectful people and I will happily spend my dollar at Somers St, BT O'Connor, Paisley park, Frank Holohan, OV, Dandy Thunder, Hume City etc etc etc...

Oakleigh, once upon a time, was a small community club backed by Greeks. No different to others like Port, Box Hill, Malvern City, Northcote, Bentleigh etc etc.. - Shit I even played two season of juniors there in the 90s. You're right in that most of their curent baord and fans where once regulars at Middle PArk or Bob Jane and visitng Oakleigh was a friendly match and atmosphere.... WAS.

Something happened to them about a decade ago. Visiting their ground is NOT enjoyable and if their self awareness is so lacking that they think it is ONLY South Melbourne fans that think this, perhaps your club should ask members of most other clubs around the NPL VIC why they feel the same way towards Oakleigh that we do?
Funny how Heidelberg wasn't mentioned :sneaky: what's wrong with the Voulgari?

So correct me if I'm wrong...you're not a die hard but you input to a forum like you are a die hard constantly defending Oakleigh's existence?

lol no you said You were happy to spend your money...no mention of Heidelberg being a Greek Club like the others!
OH I see what you mean..... Nah, as much as we have a rivalry with the Bergers, I wouldn't call them a "little" Greek club like Port or Oakleigh or whatever..... They may have fallen on tough times but once upon a time they where a mighty club, up there with the big boys....

Well someone has to fight the good fight. I played for them so of course I'll defend them.

Maybe it is the rise of Eaton mall thats caused this desire to become the biggest Greek club. I really don't know I'm just guessing, but Oakleigh is known as the Greek suburb of Melbourne, maybe they think they should also be the most successful Greek club because they are based in Oakleigh, i don't know conspiracy thinking here.

I'm abit surprised to hear they deny they had anything to do with South back then, when i was playing in the 90s, everyone was pretty much a South supporter, including like the coaches, staff members etc.

Not quite sure what you mean about giving player's to South, we're in the same league, should be absolutely filthy if any player wants to leave to a rival npl club, doesn't matter if its South or Altona.

The 2 clubs had a gentlemens agreement not to poach players from eachother (required players). Oakleigh consistently tried to break this and finally broke through and poached Peter Zois. Despite the fact that they were littered with ex south and ex nsl players they couldnt help themselves. South naturally completely distanced themselves from them and strenghthened its sister club relationship with Northcote. Even go to Brunswick City and you will see a South Melbourne jersey proudly displayed in the club rooms.

Oakleigh want to be the new hellas, your commitee pretends like they'd never attended a South nsl match. We beat you in the 2016 grand final and you kicked up a whole stink about South hosting it, now we have to play these big games at a fricken training ground.

Fair play on the 2 grand finals but your club has been detrimental to the competition, in a few weeks you will write another chapter when you refuse to host Preston at your ground causing more headaches for everyone.

Well if that's true then that's pretty shitty by Oakleigh. As a supporter though, i couldn't care less about the agreement, i want them to get the best available players and win as much as they can, as I'm sure you want your club to do.

Honestly i think grand finals should be played at a neutral venue anyway. Hotm is a shit ground, would be mad if it was at aami park, so i think it's only detrimental to the game because it's at a shit ground. Hopefully a better ground can be found in future.
