The Orange Army. (Brisbane Roar Official Thread)

"Brisbane Roar is excited to announce the signing of Bosnia and Herzegovina Youth International and FC Basel academy graduate, Milorad Stajić. The 23-year-old joins the club on a two-year deal where he will play a key role within the midfield for Michael Valkanis’ men.

Signing from Serbian SuperLiga outfit, FK Radnički Niš, where he played more than 40 matches across two seasons, Stajić brings with him a hard-working mentality, high technical ability and strong defensive qualities which will see him be an important asset in midfield in season 2025/26.

Along with this, Stajić is a product of Swiss giants, FC Basel’s academy set up and also spent time playing for Serbian side, RFK Grafičar Beograd. He has also represented Switzerland and Bosnia and Herzegovina at youth level.

Speaking on joining the Roar, Stajić said: “I am very happy to commit to playing for Brisbane Roar for the next two seasons.

“The city of Brisbane looks to be a beautiful place to play football, and I am looking forward to putting on the jersey and representing the great fans there this season. I can’t wait to see them all at the stadium.”

Head Coach, Michael Valkanis said: “Milorad joining the club is a pivotal moment as we begin to build out our squad.

“He is a composed defensive midfielder with good ball control and tactical awareness. He excels in distributing play and breaking up opposition attacks, and it’s because of this that I have no doubt that Milorad will quickly become a fan favourite.”

Brisbane Roar welcomes Milorad to the football club and looks forward to announcing a number of new signings in the weeks ahead."

Looks like Valkanis has a plan mate... Hope hope its good one for you.

he may get in the running for Maroons SOO gaffa if he has a good season ahead haha
I know you won't get it MSC but RIMB sure will.
I would like to say I have no knowledge of anything to do with thugby league but I do know we lost State of Oranges - and I don't give a stuff about that :)

Zadkovich had a plan involving an international DM (Walid Shour) too.

I am all for Valkanis and his vision for the club.

There is also some talk on the internet about leftback Jamie McGarry (former Nix, Jets and Mariners player) possibly coming here from Aberdeen (although he has been on loan to a side in one of the lesser known overseas leagues called Greek Super League).

Corey Brown, Raphael Struick, Florin Berenguer, Adam Zimarino, Keegan Jelacic and Louis Zabala all leaving/gone - so room for Valkanis to create something of his own.

Oh boy, got 8 matches on loan with -16 GD relegated Kalithea? hahahaha that is a stat I suppose... not a very good one mind you, but definitely a stat :)

He will certainly need to!

O'Shea is surely at his use-by date.

the melb boys/girls have been migrating north in droves as you know, less and less of you mexicans hahaha
Lucky migration is filling the void left down there :(:)
He'll be a token Maroon believe me hehe

I don't think anyone would have been thinking the squad he inherited was good and well balanced and just needed a fresh head. It is good that he has so many places to fill rather than having him forced into one or two changes and wait for the rest.

O'Shea is in the vision and distribution phase of his career rather than counting on him to drive the ball forward. It will be telling how Valkanis employs him in the squad. With Berenguer gone and our new DM coming maybe there is a place for him further forward again where his ability to keep possession, see an opportunity and execute is the main role and one he can do well.

Email from the Club:
Brisbane Roar can today announce that they have secured the signing of 2023 Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s champion, James McGarry on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old defender joins from Scottish outfit, Aberdeen FC, where he has been plying his trade for the past two seasons, which included a loan in 2025 to Greek second tier side, Athens Kallithea.

Prior to this, McGarry began his professional career in 2015 with Wellington Phoenix before moving to Willem II for two seasons in the Dutch Eredivise (first tier).

In 2020, the athletic left back returned to Wellington Phoenix for two seasons before transferring to Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners in 2023. It was here that McGarry’s standout performances saw him become a vital part of a championship winning season, earning him his move to Aberdeen FC.

Internationally, McGarry has represented New Zealand at under-17, under-20, under-23 and senior level.

Speaking on committing to the Roar, McGarry said: “I’m excited to be joining Brisbane Roar and representing the fans each week.

"Given my experience playing A-League football, I’m confident that I can hit the ground running and play the level of football that the club and city deserve.

"I’m hungry to win at Brisbane Roar in 25/26 and I’m ready to give my all to ensure that is the case. I can’t wait to get going.”

Head Coach Michael Valkanis said: “James’ experience and ability to get up and down the wings from defence makes him a fantastic signing for the football club.

“In addition to this, James knows what it takes week in week out to win a championship in this competition and bringing that mentality into the changeroom makes him an invaluable addition to the squad.”

3 year contract for McGarry is good.

The Club has been signing players without telling us how long they are contracted for.

I like that they are committing to lengthy contracts and that they are telling us about it.

Promising signing and promising behaviour.

full back seems our weakest position at the moment so no complaints there. Our right back situation is probably passable if we have a young gun providing competition (and perhaps winning the rb spot)
we also need a cb to relace herrington and an understudy for O'Shea (ideally competing and winning his spot) given O'Shea is getting on a bit

also need a striker

I'm annoyed at this thread and in particular RIMB.

You need the 'circus' in the thread title RIMB. Always had a little chuckle on 442 when it popped up to the top of the threads. What fresh hell are the Roar up to this week?

Sort it out fella.
