The Orange Army. (Brisbane Roar Official Thread)

Totally undecided since I know nothing about him but with heavy reservations.

Played a couple of friendlies with the Aus U19 squad in 2024 but nothing higher that I can see and no actual competitive internationals. Played for his B side in Greece but not the seniors.

Centreback - which is not a position we seem to have a shortage of players in.

I am very skeptical because it just looks and smells like nepotism rather than need.
AEK academy is very well regarded and has "produced" some handy players mate... Not sure about young Dimi Val but hope he is a goodun' for you.

Roar Media Release:
"Brisbane Roar is excited to announce the signing of attacking midfielder, Georgios Vrakas, who joins the club permanently from Greek Super League outfit, Atromitos F.C.

A product of both the POAK and SSC Napoli academies, Vrakas made his senior team debut for POAK in the Greek Super League in 2020 before transferring to second tier side, Levadiakos FC on loan for two seasons. Here, Vrakas featured on 58 occasions before returning to POAK to represent their ‘B’ (reserve) team.

In 2024, Vrakas made the permanent move to Atromitos F.C., where he played for the club on 17 occasions in 2024. In 2025, the midfielder moved to Athens Kallithea on loan, playing alongside current Roar defender, James McGarry.

From here, Vrakas was recruited by Michael Valkanis to put pen to paper with the Roar and seal his move to the Isuzu UTE A-League Men.

Speaking on joining the Roar, Vrakas said, “I’m happy to commit to Brisbane Roar and moving to Australia to play in the A-League.

“I believe that my skills and attributes will make me a good addition to the team. I can’t wait to start putting in the hard work with my teammates and represent the people of Brisbane with pride.”

Commenting on luring the Greek/Australian, head coach Michael Valkanis said, “Georgios is a dynamic, attacking midfielder whose ability on the ball will no doubt help the team become more dangerous in the attacking third.

“Along with this, his work rate will continue to drive the high standards we have set here amongst the playing group. We look forward to welcoming him here in Brisbane.” "

24 year old Greek/Australian AM.

Has played for Greece U16-U19 and scored goals in each age group across the four years.

Not a goal scorer of note at senior level but has played 17 games in the Greek Super League in 2024 then 11 games in Super League 2 this year.

Interested to see how he goes. Also interesting to note he has played with McGarry before.

Roar Media Release:
"Brisbane Roar can confirm that youth national team defender Lucas Herrington will transfer to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Colorado Rapids for an undisclosed club record fee during the 2026 January transfer window.

Herrington earned his first A-League contract with a three-year scholarship deal ahead of the 2024/25 campaign after five years in the club’s NPL set up.

After making his Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s debut in a 2-2 draw against Western Sydney Wanderers in December of 2024, Herrington went on to appear 17 times and became a mainstay in the starting eleven throughout an outstanding debut season.

The 18-year-old also scored his first A-League goal in Roar’s 4-3 win over Sydney FC in January.

Herrington has been involved in representing Australia at the U17, U18, and U19 levels on multiple occasions which led to earning a call up to the Young Socceroos side that won the U20 AFC Asian Cup in February.

The Taringa Rovers, Toowong and Brisbane City junior won 70% of his duels and 72.1% of his aerial duels in his first topflight season.

Speaking on his time at Roar, Herrington said: “I am so grateful to the Brisbane Roar for giving me the opportunity to start my professional football journey by playing for this great club.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club, to have come through the Academy from U13s makes it even more special.

“Over the past seven years, I have met some amazing people, from management to coaches to players and of course, the fans.

“I am very proud to have represented the club I have been supporting since I was a kid.”

Speaking on the transfer, Head Coach Michael Valkanis said: “At Brisbane Roar, we’re dedicated to identifying quality young Queensland talent and developing them into future stars, and this transfer is an example of just that.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Lucas and look forward to seeing what he achieves in the MLS.

“But for now, our focus is on hitting the ground running for the 25/26 season and he will play a big part in that until his departure in January.” "

Herrington gone in January 2026 transfer window to Colorado.

Much mentioned. Was highly likely. Happening.

Makes sense of bolstering our young Aussie centrebacks with our father's son at least - regardless of his name.

Hope Herrington goes on to be great and we might see him in the second biggest green and gold kit sometime in the future.

I feel disappointed by this. I think another season and then a European league would have been better. I certainly hope he does better than Jake Girdwood-Reich.

Roar is so Greek this year, I guess Ill have to adopt them as my defacto Aleague team again eh?

If only you would turn your evil genius into marketing for this forum... :devilish:
I do wonder how big this forum will get. Will we get as big as 2010ish 442?

Reckon we are a tenth of the way there already. Gotta start somewhere!

Think we have a huge issue with our back four

Mls as you suggest is an interesting prospect. If you go to an austrian swiss or danish side, it is probably similar quality but you have a better chance of levelling up to a higher league. Perhaps that is just my perception

Herrington is pretty special, I think he could have made it in a seri b, buli 2 or championship club even now

Roar Media Release:
"Brisbane Roar are delighted to announce the signing of defender Ava Piazza for the upcoming 25/26 Ninja A-League season.

Piazza joins the club from Pyunik FC from the Armenian Premier League after previously playing for Portuguese side Clube de Albergaria in the Liga BPI.

The 20-year-old has also played for both Newcastle Jets and Canberra United during the 23/24 season, where she made six appearances.

The defender, who can play both defensive midfield and central defence, played her junior football for Sydney University Soccer Football Club. She then went on to join Western Sydney Wanderers’ Future Women's Program and played Under 17’s for Apia Leichhardt.

Piazza was selected into the Football NSW Institute before becoming a Melbourne Victory train-on player and having a breakout year that saw her become a part of the Future Matildas Training Program and part of several Young Matildas training camps. This success led to her signing her first A-League contract with Canberra United.

“I’m incredibly excited to be signing with Brisbane Roar,” Piazza said.

“I chose Roar because of the club’s culture, the professionalism, and the opportunity to grow as a player in a really competitive environment.

“This season, I’m looking forward to contributing as much as I can to the team’s success, pushing myself to new levels, and making the most of every opportunity that comes my way.

“After a few months in Europe, I’m buzzing to be back in Australia and joining Brisbane Roar. Can’t wait to get started!”

Speaking on the addition of Piazza to the squad, Head Coach Alex Smith said: “Extremely pleased to welcome Ava to the program.

“She is an aggressive player always on the front foot who now has European experience to bring back to the A-League Women’s.

“Ava is someone who understands the commitment it takes to be a professional footballer.”

25/26 Ninja A-League Women’s Contracted Players: Chloe Lincoln, Laini Freier, Ruby Cuthbert, Leia Varley, Momo Hayashi, Isabela Hoyos, Alicia Woods, Zara Kruger, Amali Kinsella, Daisy Brown, Ava Piazza and Grace Kuilamu."
