The Western United Thread

It does surprise me on these forums to see the number of people who seem to assume that licences have been somehow withheld from potential candidates for expansion. If the money was there, the licence would have been allocated. The APL/FFA have NEVER had the luxury of turning anyone down except, absurdly, South Melbourne (ffs, really?) - Team 11 never had the cash; they were hoping for the govt to step in and the govt said no. Canberra has never had the cash nor Tasmania (who never will - the state is a financial dumpster fire).
well I can assure you the money "was there" and the bid turned down... what next?

South Melbourne can now buy their license for $1. According to MESC, despite their financial secrecy, SMH are cashed up and could afford it!

Strikers, Gold Coast United, Northern spirit, Woolongong wolves and canberra city all still exist in the npl system which is a strike rate of 83% survival. All 26 traditional clubs that played in the state leagues and went back to the nsl still survive. Only traditional club that died is western suburbs and that was while they were in the nsl. They got absorbed by apia
Northern Spirit no longer exist. NW Spirit is not them.

Sad day, some seem in glee at there demise... for me it highlights the very poor decision making when they were given the place....

Will be interesting to see if the proposed new owners wish to buy in at a bargain basement price or whether their interest in buying was over stated...

What I find interesting is FA pulled the plug not APL....

I caution those who think the failure of an A-L teams helps create P & R for the tier two competition are a long way off the mark.... to get P & R off the ground we need a very successful A-L... a crap and failing A-L will not be good for professional Football in Australia....

I do wonder aloud if the elephant in the room will come outside and play or be invited to play.... i.e. will South Melbourne be looked at and maybe become part of the A-L.... for one I would love SM back ...
