Waddingham is still very young and I was curious to see how his stats have changed from last year. Surprisingly, he has had less ball higher on the pitch which means less shots, lower xg and lower chance creation. He has been much more clinical this year feeding off scraps in a very weak Brisbane team. His press has been less successful this year, despite his defensive stats being worse overall, which probably suggests Brisbane are just not pressing as much this year.

Unsurprisingly, his dueling has gotten better which is usually the area where young players improve the most quickly. His aerial ability in particular shows signs of improvement. He is still a bit remedial off the ball. The timing of his runs might be elite, but he can struggle to find space in possession and struggle to do enough in defense despite being a hard worker. His dribbling is so far even more remedial than last year, so this just is unlikely to be part of his game apart from doing simple cuts in transition. He rarely looses the ball and I'd like to see Brisbane use him more in hold up play, even though his first touch can be inconsistent. I think unless he improves out of sight, he probably needs another year in the A league.

He could probably peak in the big 5 but at the moment he might struggle to start for a lot of league 1 teams right now. Super young and a super bright prospect though, and he does have uk citizenship. So a transfer to a League 1 team at the end of this season is not the end of the world (or a championship team the season after). Hopefully he doesn't get picked up by Tottenham or Bayern where young players often get lost. I've highlighted worrying areas of his game

Will have to watch Adelaide highlights as Goodwin read well. They burst onto the scene and good they're scoring and backing it up. Just need the right coaches to keep developing the killer instinct. Wish Rene had left a parting gift program as he developed Rashford's attack.

Nice to see Botic scoring too. As you've thoroughly analysed, good Joey performances rarely mean they'll go all the way so we've got to be patient with all of these players and hopefully they'll be top in 5 years.

Yeah it's more about quantity and the technical quality overall imo. It takes a lot of promising players to find one that makes it to the top!

I feel he needs more time to establish himself, I sense he’s still a bit raw but clearly he has a lot of potential to become a very good player.

I think Kaltak got injured early in the game and stayed on. Soon after Archie scored after making Kaltak and Paull look silly. He certainly seems to know his way to goal.

Just watched all the goals. Nice to see players going in for the kill. Ruhs showed more composure than Borrello against Saudi. Waddingham's goal is a good example of what can happen if you have a go and a lot of AFC keepers will be rooted to the spot.

A-league clubs undeniably want the biggest fee possible as other feeder leagues in world football but as with other young promising players hope he insists on a stepping stone opportunity over ressie certainty.
