World Cup 2026 Australia thread

I'm gobsmacked everyone has forgotten Ryan Strain. Head and shoulders our best right back.
I think so. Always looked tidy when playing for Australia. Bloody Jones getting in the way when he was actually fit. Sliding doors if he scored at Wembley.

Interesting point about foreign coaches

doesn't necessarily apply to developing nations mind you

Winning a world cup probably isn't the best mettic of if foreign coaches are good/ appropriate. There are too few world cups and the nations that win will almost always be countries with a lot of football culture/ knowledge. Meaning they will have good coaches available.

Maybe all continental finalists, plus world cups, or world cup semi finalists. Or considering over achievement compared to ranking.

But there are definitely inherent advantages to home grown though I think.

Historically a foreign coach has never won a World Cup, Belgium was close with Martinez but the furthest they went was the semi finals.

That's why its important you not only need top class players but also need top classes coaches, maybe no coincidence that England haven't won the World Cup since 1966 as their coaching talent isn't as strong as other countries that have won the World Cup since.

So for us we only need the players now as the coaching stocks are quite good ;)

Reactions: LFC
Given the heat at the CWC, there are considerations for stadiums with roofs and domes to be used during day games. I wonder what kind of rules and provisions there are regarding kick off time changes. It'd just be a switch around I guess.

Interesting paragraph from the Rugari article.

Something I already knew based on his wsw days, but maybe why I am less upset by his squads than a lot of people.
If he leaves someone out, he has watched them a lot. They know how he is performing. It would not surprise me if he had watched all of Irankunda's matches last season.

It's good he's watching but I still don't think his selections are justified when he goes on about form and level. What I mean is he was very quick to drop Irankunda but has been lenient on others.

I can't recall whether Boyle or Yengi were injured but there were omissions.

Brattan doesn't exactly count as he was an emergency replacement. He's gotten pretty much every selection right in a sense of fitting to his system.

He's obviously impressed by Circati and he's a class act. Metcalfe did a lot right in the camp.

Circati doesn't count here so I guess if I had to insist on one being included then I'd take Toure just above Irankunda, Triantis and Balard but that's only due to the dire striker situation.

he said he did in the interview (which is much more comprehensive than the article)

I think Tuchel could change this, but he has to have the balls to drop guys like Walker, Henderson, Maguire and even Kane. Play a system like PSG with Palmer as a false 9 - they have the talent to do it. The question is if the media will let him.
