World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Almost certainly I would think it is more a money thing than anyone caring that they qualify.

I can't remember who said this, but only Saudi and Qatar are willing to put up cash in Asia these days. Hence no tournaments in East Asia, countries not willing to pay the cost.

That's not true.

South Korea and Australia both nominated for the Asian Cup that was meant to be in China (after China withdrew), and the fact it was an eastern Asian Cup meant it should have gone to either one, but for some unknown reason it went west. It means East Asia won't see an AC for 16 years!

Yeah okay, something not right with that. Some behind the scenes money or politics going on when it is unknown I suppose. It seems the power base it Asia has shifted even further west.

We withdrew before the final vote because the original dates had the Asian Cup finishing days before the WWC was due to start and I think it became tough to organise the venues. Of course they then chose Qatar and subsequently shifted the dates six months.

Sorry your right.

Just looked at the tournament, would love to know how Qatar won the Fair play award?

On 442 performance section you were thrilled with a goalkeeping course you did with a controversial coach educator I’ve done a lot with!

I’m pretty sure it was you.

Do the initials DM mean anything?
I once spoke about Brattan being a good DM and may also have mentioned a goat-keeping course I had been impressed with.

Maybe that is what confused the issue...?

That's exactly what it is. Outrageous that it not be in a neutral country and that Saudi and Qatar will have home games. Hope that both get smashed. So does this mean that Saudi and Qatar are in separate pots? Are there seedings in place?

Iraq, UAE, Oman and Indonesia all unhappy with the selection of non-neutral host location. Sounds like decision may be reconsidered. FIFA and AFC are a bloody joke.

Should be neutral. Anywhere but those 2 rigged places.

Can see them just switching the Qatar and Saudi qualifiers, so Saudis play in Qatar, and vise versa. They're close enough to each other to give home advantage, and it still offers the illusion of neutrality.

Can see? I couldn't find the source to confirm that. All I know is on Saudi & Qatar page their fans are saying they ll be playing in their own stadium. If NOT they wouldnt be bidding to host in the first place.

Mate, I'm just guessing, as everyone else is.

But I don't know how FIFA can knowingly allow home advantage for these qualifiers, without opening themselves up to litigation from the other 4 through the ICAS. Maybe they can, I dunno. Guess we'll just have to see how it pans out.

Cant half tell FIFA and the AFC took a bribe from Qatar and Saudi's to host the play offs at home.

Does anyone know how much the FA get for the Socceroo's qualifying for the 2026 world cup? Back in 2022 they got $1.5m just for qualifying and a further $13m for getting to the R16. So with 48 teams and more group games anyone know the figures?

last world cup I think was 9million usd for a group stage exit and 13mil for r16 exit i believe

interesting that is less than the club world cup?

Fifa's being pushed in to incentiving the CWC under the threat that the major club will walk .

As for the 26 WC, I can't imagine it being that much more than the what was offered 3 years ago with the increase in teams, and the financial black hole that the CWC created.
