World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

McGree and Souttar seemed calm in their interviews. Just annoying that the Saudi away game is going to count for even more. Ideally it was we'd need a heavy loss to be jumped.

Game on in....? North Korea trailed Iran 3:0 at the break but an Iran red card and two quick goals for North Korea make for an exciting final half hour.

If Velupillay and Hrustic are out, we should call Toure, Iredale or Irankunda over. Maybe even Luongo. If we can fly Iredle all the way to Indonesia after Yengi's suspension then surely we should be on the phone tonight if we know the condition of those two.
Not much jetlag going to bahrain rather than australia

Consensus on twitter is confidence is an issue with our players. Could be true?

Rough night for Tara Rushton. First said Hrustic was MOM then corrected herself post O'Neill interview. She then stated we lost to Bahrain in Brisbane. I mean, who really cares but I'm saying this as she also said we're flying to the Gulf tomorrow night meaning a Saturday morning arrival and I trust it's accurate. Not too bad time wise.

In hindsight I wish we'd started some A League players. I don't think the conditioning was too bad but maybe it could have been a bit better.

All the words with C. Confidence, cohesion, confusion. The team didn't really know what to do. No evidence of a blue print and just made up as we went along. We hardly had any time together again and these late club games don't help. I think that's part of the reason and the players are showing a bit of squad fatigue in that the ins and outs aren't necessarily justified and there are rifts in the camp. The older guard are still playing and not performing.

The players were smiling and joking around post game but you could see others having more serious conversations with body language of frustration or confusion. Read into it what you will. I think the Degenek Burgess conversation was constrictive about the deflection for the goal.

... but it was good to see a player like Anthony Caceres finally get a go, one of the best technicians in the country that got overlooked for too long because our football system is so obsessed with speed and athleticism that we overlook some of the best technicians that could make a difference we got to look beyond this if we want to progress further forward.
While I agree he is usually a good technician these days he was a very frustrating for many years trying to beat the same two or three players two or three times. He has finally learnt that you don't have to do it all yourself. That said he was fairly anonymous when he came on tonight.

Probably as many as 20 matches for some players between this window and the next. Plenty of time for a fringe player to put their hand up

Bahrain China underway.

I've had the feeling for a while that Bahrain might be the trickier threat. Massive chance blown tonight to put 3 on Saudi. Indonesia and their recruiting makes it tough for everyone. Here's hoping they can beat Saudi next but we have to do the job at home against them.

Our group really is the toughest. This last minute pot slip for Saudi, Indonesia going all big on recruiting and China being some weird banana skin. To think another group has Kuwait and Palestine plus Jordan and Oman is wild. The latter two are generally better than Bahrain but Bahrain are on the up in their own way.

Son and his penalty milking. The rear angle shows he just initiates a fall and it looks worse the contact isn't there.

Bahrain v china is going nicely...hope it stays 1 all
Though a china win is probably better than a bahrain win
