World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Head to head in which way? As FIFA qualifiers, head to head isn’t the primary tiebreaker as is normally the case with AFC.
Should be goal difference, then goals scored if memory serves correct
Ah hang on you’re right @JS96 - they’ve changed it this time around to be head to head for tied nations - this changes things

It’s one half but it’s best football I’ve seen the Socceroo play in a long time, playing through the midfield and taking advantage of the width and we look very good as a process.

Talk about the midfield how good has Ryan Teague looked? He’s a quality technician and he’s showing that he doesn’t look out of place at international level.

its ok - 2up away HT is massive advantage as long as they keep on the pedal and keep mistakes down.
The resumption next 10/15 coming up we have to go hard.
Gotta keep at it. We may get a goal out of it. But it's also safer defensively imo.

poor triantis might be in the unfortunate position of competing with irvine rather than o'niell

No no im referring to H2H as in 2 respective teams facing off meaning only 1 can get a Max of 3 point.

I think a 4-2-3-1 might work better for us, I think another attacker in the final third might work better but the 3-4-3 is working well so far.

Push Irvine forward as a No.10 with Teague and Triantis behind him making those forward passes we got capable technical players which should free Irvine getting into the end of the things which works well for us.

yeah if we had a 4-3-3. Poppa is playing inside forwards, so unless you can play wide you can't play attacking mid in this system

Always believed Irvine works best as a box to box player. He doesn't have the technical skills to unlock a defence imo

That bench of ours is pretty boring. Only Goodwin and maybe Arzani bring sny excitement.

It'll be interesting if we bring on O'Neill or Caceres later.

Saudi territory improving. It seems any point lead against Saudi for Australia means avoiding defeat Saudi away is the way.

We could qualify automatically pending the Saudi result in Bahrain should we not beat Japan. Sort this game first and let the dust settle.

Astonished how well Teague is playing! Can’t believe it is his first game for Aus?

Just indicative of the higher quality of the younger whiz gen in Aus. There are a lot more of them too in central midfield/ DMs - Hollman, Valadon, Youlley, Okon, Deli.

Maybe Triantis is too? Even if I haven’t seen evidence of it - yet.

A year ago I thought Nieuw was in front of the pack.
