Sign Up Now!When Recoba missed I turned to my mate and said we had this. When he was replaced I breathed a lot easier. Watching back on replays you can hear the ball fizzing as it spins from his corners.gosh how am I meant to get any work done today
hearts racing already. Don't know how the players cope with this level of pressure
I still get nervous watching us v Uruguay in 2005 as if the result isn't in doubt. Maybe this time recoba scores, poppa gets a red or bresciano misses
Yep he was a friggin worry - I admire left footer’s technique and watched him a lot during his Inter career and knew look out this guy can spin it on a dial. When Recoba missed I turned to my mate and said we had this. My brain auto predicted called off as the final wordThe game is officially a sellout.
The Roar are pissing me off more and more. Too often they just ignore my articles so I doubt I'll write too many more.

Had my last article rejected for being too long. Frustrated since I did a lot of analysis on it and its an important subject. Might split it into two piecesThe Roar are pissing me off more and more. Too often they just ignore my articles so I doubt I'll write too many more.

The non-selection of Nectar Triantis by Greece has caused a massive sigh of relief across all Australia.
Could this mean that we never had any reason for alarm? Nectar was just wanting some time to move cities after his loan to Hibs concluded and he will, in fact, be selected for the June qualifiers?
He ought to be. Having just made the SPFL team of the season and won constant MOTM awards, he is arguably (with Max Balard and Alessandro Circati) the most in-form Australian player right now and MUST be picked in June. We leave him out at our peril, and doubtless Greece are still watching on with interest.
I’m actually extremely excited at what our team might look like in two or three years, but what our team looks like in two or three weeks is far more important. Circati, Balard and Triantis MUST be included. MUST be.
Australia has a reputation, over many years, of producing players with speed, strength and indomitable will, but we’ve not much been known for producing technical quality.
That’s what is so exciting about the next few years. We have some youngsters now who can really play.
Triantis, Circati and Balard are probably the front of the pack when it comes to technique as actually applied in decent leagues. Triantis, just turned 22, is one of the best players in Scotland. The SPFL is not a top tier league but dominating the league as a (mostly) 21 yo is seriously impressive. His Hibs highlights reel is well worth watching.
Triantis is a big lad but very skilled and mobile for all that. He has calmly controlled match after match for Hibs this season and is arguably the main reason for their third placing. He could well follow in the footsteps of Virgil Van Dyke with a bit of luck and the right transfers. With Sunderland now in the EPL, I expect him to play in the EPL next season and to go to yet another new level.
Circati has just come back from a long term injury and has immediately hit the ground running. He was MOTM against Serie A leaders Juventus the other day and is known by Parma fans as The Wall. We are so lucky to have him. Like Triantis he is very tall but very fast and skilful.
Max Balard has finished the season as captain (24 yo) of NAC Breda in the Eredivisie – a league long known for its technical excellence. He was a crucial part of the CCM midfield (with Josh Nisbet) which won last year’s famous Treble but has gone to a whole new level in Europe. With Jackson Irvine injured, the opportunity to pair Triantis and Balard together in midfield is utterly mouthwatering.
There are plenty of others I’m looking forward to seeing in the Green and Gold.
Can we please get Nestory Irankunda back into our team. There is no-one – repeat no-one – else with an Australian passport with his capacity to disrupt defences. He has to be used judiciously (ie, not played out of position). He’s a winger, Popa, in case you didn’t know.
I’m really looking forward to seeing Jordie Bos and Jake Farrell fight out the LB position over the next ten years but (alas) they’re both injured for now.
Hayden Matthews (another injury patient) is another exciting prospect and I expect him to have a breakout year, next year, with Farrell and Waddingham at Portsmouth.
Segecic, Milanovic, Botic, Mo Toure are all players I’m dying to see for Oz but we still need some experience. Riley McGree (hopefully) will regain full fitness but it’s Josh Nisbet we desperately need to see pulling the strings. He’s suffered relegation with Ross County but he’s been one of their better players and desperately needed other players on his wavelength.
If we were to pick a Socceroos XI with no-one (today) older than 25, it’s not a bad team:
Gauci
Matthews Circati Farrell
Triantis Balard
Irankunda Nisbet Bos
Milanovic Toure
And the good bit?
There are any number of others who could make this team.
For the moment, can we at least see Circati, Triantis and Balard picked, and played, in the June qualifiers?
I would have significantly greater confidence if we went into the matches versus Japan and Saudi with those three at the front of our defence.
Don't mind it. Concerned about O'Neill's Jetlag. In fact I wouldn't mind Metcalfe creating a flat mid 3 and then a two prong Borrello Boyle attack with their runs. Borrello is really going to have to justify it tonight. That back 3 is reassuring. So
