we arguably missing more consequential players in irvine, souttar, bos etc since we have weaker depth. We also nabbed a point away from home with our defense

I agree we had trouble holding the ball, but a big part of that is tactics. You have to measure a team relative to their game plan.
We are technically well behind them, and I hope that changes, but technique is only one part of the game, defense much more important (I'm a cb so perhaps that colours my view)

You're right. That is a super unpopular comment. We are so far behind them it's outright embarrassing.
 
Indonesia still want to go on but the late goal must have upset their fans. A genuine chance.
Arguably Japan will play a lesser team the next game. They've got their blueprint though.

Something to consider, would we be upset if France or Brazil did this to us? Probably not as much.

Japan might not quite be there yet, but they are getting close. They are ahead of all but the very elite nations. I hope they show this next year.

very good at winning and controlling possession, but struggle to create chances against a good defense. Will be interesting to see how they go against teams that can defend as ell as us but have more fangs in attack

ah yes, I see now - I thought you meant Saudi would host their own playoffs - but they won't even be in it!

Will the playoffs even be there? Would assume it's home and away, and then the winner goes off to USA hosting the final playoffs I thought?

That would probably be less of an issue against bigger teams as they won't sit back, leaving more room.

But yes, it's the last piece they need.

not necessarily. Even a decent team might sit back for the last 10-20 minutes to defend a lead and if they can't crack an organized defense that is a serious weakness if they are ever chasing a game
