World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

What a way to break your duck! Was concerned he shot right at the keeper but I guess it was in a place where it'd go in.
 
We certainly are playing the match, not the occasion. No different to a league game with an early lapse and lethargic start. Wish we'd been able to see players in better action but it's about managing the game tonight.
 
Great ball by Duke. I'd need to see it again but looked to me like Metcalfe mis-hit the ball and it kinda bounced straight into the ground and befuddled the keeper somewhat. Crucial goal in the circumstances, as we were looking shaky. Burgess so slow to react a couple of times and lucky the level-headed ref didn't call a penalty. I've seen them paid. We started well generally but so poor after their goal.

we qualify the previous world cup in a penalty shoot out against the 5th placed south american team
We then make the r16 only to lose to the eventual world cup winners
after this we have a disappointing quarter final asian cup exit
we then qualify automatically for only the 2nd time in the middle east
we have a really promising player in an attacking position playing at a high level whose main asset is his off the ball worked and is scapegoated by fans

Germany is gonna smash us 4-0 in the group stages next year aren't they?

Yeah kicked it into ground and it bobbled up. Original shot was probably far corner roll. Either at the keeper for a block or maybe even post.

Actually taking the shot! We need this so much more instead of trying to walk it into the goal.

Often a good qualifying means a tricky tournament and vice versa. I guess it's about peaking at the right time. Under Popovic it'll be 2018 style. However, we've got a class defence and there re options elsewhere. I like Yazbek but I just wonder how it'll be at a WC. I'd take a lot of comfort with Yazbek having muscle like Triantis or Balard next to him. Just imagine if we had Robertson...

Palestine and Israel qualify. Honestly, any nation that requires FIFA to not have them clash should simply be excluded. It's a joke. UEFA years back where you had Ukraine-Russia not clashing as with Serbia and Kosovo.

Ironically they have distance and seasonal provisions with grouping but the political one is a circus from all sides that quarrel and don't compete in sport.
 
Not like it picks the squad but why was Arzani the media boy this week and he isn't picked? Alas, the media have never been good at that. I remember a massive 442 spread pre 08 Olympics and the 2 cover feature boys didn't see a minute.
 
Damn. Right choice by Boyle and nice reach by keeper. Once again going forward quickly and shooting shows the way.
