Socceroos 11 in March WC

Way too early for Kikianis and Bennie. Bennie's not even started a game for QPR has he?

It will be definitely be Rowles as one of the CBs and given the injuries I suspect he might play Triantis there who has played most of his football at CB despite tearing Scotland apart at DM.

Oddly enough, the injury crisis gives Popa the excuse to bring in players he's ignored. Balard very likely to play - Triantis almost certain to be picked - Nisbet and Irankunda likely to be back. Robertson hopefully to make himself available...

Add those five to the starting line-up and I think we're a much better team than the last couple of selections.

I should add that Iredale thoroughly deserves his chance on the left. Been a total revelation for Hibs this year.

yeah bennie need another 12 months before he is ready for the roos imo

poppa gave matthews a debut though, so stranger things have happened

I hope triantis plays mid, he can be mistake prone at cb yet looks almost epl level at 6

Triantis made the odd mistake at CB on his first stint for Hibs but was pretty much immaculate for the Mariners in his one season in the AL. I think any mistakes could be put down to adjusting to Scottish conditions. He'll be fine in Australia/Asia.

I'm thinking Kikianis and Bennie more as squad players than starters.

Triantis is a good shout and I think that's what will happen.

An Iredale - Rowles -Triantis - Strain back four isn't too bad.

Popovic will probably add Behich as a left wing back and Miller instead of Strain at right wing back for a back five though.

not a terrible idea to have bennie on the bench
kikianis im not against starting. He might be even better than matthews imo

I'd like to see this:

Ryan
Strain - Triantis - Rowles - Iredale
Balard - Irvine
Nisbet
Boyle - Toure - Goodwin

Subs from Irankunda, Yengi, Segecic at the front.

Luongo and O'Neill to offer bench options for midfield.

There are goals in that group and it still looks defensively solid.

What we'll probably get is:

Ryan
Geria - Rowles - Iredale
Miller -------------------------- Behich
O'Neill - Irvine
Hrustic - Duke - Goodwin
at this stage I'm so nervous I couldn't care less if poppa started his grandma. Just get the job done

I'd be overjoyed with that side but would be amazed if we saw it.

Would prefer Izzo also.

Irankunda needs space. You put him there he wont touch the ball. The guy cant hold the ball or do anything else.

Look like you haven't been following Aus abroad.
Burgess is out injured
Hrustic ???
Yer I don't think Popas system suits our best players although he may yet switch to a back four.

Iredale or Rowles for Burgess then.

Hrustic? Yer lack of options in that inverted role, Milanovic my next choice.

Either way I think my original post is close to what we will get.

does Thurgate feature in any one’s squad predictions?
Good player. It's really were just so stacked in midfield it's hard fit them in let alone play them.

We came off with minimal damage but using a starting spot for Brattan shows anything is possible.

Carceres was warranted but had a horrible time Bahrain away yet Matthews didn't put a foot wrong for an ME away debut. Unlucky header. Souttar had to scream to leave it and he clears it.

For me the issue has been sticking with the old guard which limits our exposure and innovation and then we get caught short when the new players do come in.

Someone like Leckie really doesn't need to be considered anymore. Behich and Irvine have blocked off better players for years. O'Neill was a one hit wonder but does a lot people don't see. I reckon Thurgate would be a revelation if started over Irvine.

We tend to see the new players through a different lense. Irvine is good for the squad but shouldn't be guaranteed a start. Only then might he sharpen up but he's technically woeful.
