A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 3

Yeah, even though WSW vs ADL game was exciting, the overall quality was atrocious.

CCM vs Perth was abysmal.
I tended to watch SFC v BR & thought SFC was playing some very nice football.
Likewise the NZ derby, I thought they were trying to play out from the back.

Yes, SFC have looked great to start the year.

Ufuk appears to replicating his magic from Wellington, next Socceroos coach maybe?

Agree re NZ derby.

Yeah I saw that when I got home from work (QLD). I thought that a Western home game would've been played at their new ground
They said on the coverage that City and Victory games were at AAMI and the rest at home.

New ground doesn't hold enough, it's only 2800 seated + 2200 standing. In theory they should be able to pull a bigger crowd at AAMI but to be honest it's probably not worth the extra expense.

Maybe, but did he win the Asian Champions League 10 years ago?

Feel for Tilio, another injury to him he has so much ability a shame injuries are getting in he’s way.
I don’t think it was a great game, both teams looked rusty but at least there was some chances but the final ball or shot was lacking from both teams.

Though young Leonard at the back looks like a good prospect for Western United.

Entertaining round but I hope the quality goes up a notch in the next few weeks.

An interesting thing so far this season is how the refs are letting things go a lot more, not sure if it’s a good thing given how physical the league can be but it’s an interesting observation so far.

Edit: Seen that Nabbout coped a bad injury as well, feel for him and Tilio.
Melb city have got a lot of injuries it seems.

Saw all the highlights for all round 3 AL games on Paramount. Was caught up with a Shield cricket game, social events and a few political actions.

Went back to have a look at the full replays of Western v City - and - Vic v Mac.

City played some scintillating football against Western in the first half. Haven't seen the second half yet. Atkinson was used to plug Behich's suspension at LB. It might suit Vidmar and City, but Atkinson is one of the best RBs for the Socceroos ATM. From a Socceroo perspective we want Atko playing at RB instead of Talbot. However, Talbot is doing pretty well there. Talbot is good going forwards, has excellent vision, game sense and is a decent technician.

City are moving the ball quickly - which is pleasing on the eye. Players are supporting each other well, with plenty of optimum, angled passing lanes to keep the build up progressing forwards. Aurelio Vidmar is doing a good job with City, despite them being outplayed by Vic in last week's derby. It is really good to watch City.

Then Melb Vic in the first half against Mac, have played even better football, despite not scoring. Machach is terrific. Is he French?

At last I've seen Valadon win 4 contests, where he has been previously weak. He anticipated the contests well. He and Teague are a slick DM screening combo. Danny McBreen compares them to Ballard and Nisbet for CCM last season. I think the current Vic duo are better.

Most of the time, I'm keeping an eye on Vic to check Socceroos' progress - Geria, Villupillay and Arzani ( who can't make the starting line up). Gee, Piscopo ( who has a new lease of life this season) Villupillay, Valadon and Teague, have all improved decidedly this season. Grace Gill is pretty impressed too. It was even mooted that Teague could be called up for the Socceroos. In this game they've outplayed Socceroo Brattan, and the talented young Jake Hollman, at this stage of the replay.

The handling speed of Valadon, is really quick for an Aussie when on the ball. It is difficult for the opposition to dispossess him. To play a player like Valadon, a team really wants more time on the ball, because if Vic dominate possession, this guy is a midfield general.

Teague is no slouch as a technician either ( as is a resurgent Piscopo). The DM is a decidedly improved ball winner this season. Grace Gill has suggested a Socceroo berth isn't far away. At times against Mac, Melb Vic have moved the ball as quickly as I've seen in the AL. It is the ability to maintain build ups under pressure, and keep progressing forwards.

Like the look of young Bos too at LB.

Jake Drew has had some good chances to score on the RW by receiving early balls in accelerated attacks.

teague definitely looks like he could be going overseas soon!

You spotted valadon as a standout for the olyroos when he was getting little club game time. Definitely looks a decent player

I haven't watched all A L teams this season, but apart from CCM, I think most AL teams try and play out from the back.
