Official South Melbourne Hellas thread 🔵⚪

Im really not sure what the point of this hybrid 5pm kick off is where the lights have to come on 20 minutes in. The whole point of playing Sunday is to play in the day, like Preston 3pm yesterday. Crowd was about what i expected and they had an ok away turnout.

Will be ugly this Friday, sub 200 i think. Im going to assume the ground isnt available on Sunday.

Selfishly I actually like 5pm Sunday KO... Gives me family time during the day and football in the evening with enough of a early finish to get the kids back home for dinner and ready for school the next day if they tag along.

Is Fornaroli booting Popes shot out of the ground? Or the one he had in the 1st half from an incredible position that ended up closer to the corner flag? Is Fornaroli butchering a 3 on 1 counter attack if he is approaching the box? Is he fucking up literally every attacking sequence that Harding and Brennan did yesterday?

We lost yesterdays game cos we were dreadful in the box, im not going to argue that 5k isnt excessive, but the reality is someone of his quality with the chances we had yesterday scores at least 2. Since we cant keep clean sheets anymore only goal scorers will save us.
I agree on the wastefulness but if we expect that fornaroli will put in 1/3 of the yards pope does then its a case of 5k for 30 mins football bc thats all he will last in that role.. he is equivalent to cahnces produced and i can count on one hand how many chances he has produced of his own accord that werent served to him in the last 2 years!
Again i ask are we a team whichbon the park produces that many chances on the ground for him to score that many goals ?

I dont think chance creation has been an issue the past month. It just looks ugly when we get it down there because we are using guys who have no idea how to play the position.

I remember one passage where a low cross came in and if Harding had just peeled off to the back post he would have had a tap in, instead he fell into the defender...simply no idea.

Your almighty board admitted they won’t be spending the money that the likes of Avondale and Oakleigh do.

Which means you will not be up there with them in Victorian football. And alas is the case.

The scare of doing down is rubbish, I&D aren’t bailing out Knights now so they won’t be getting any suspicious results go their way. We’ll always maintain our spot in the mid table of VPL. But that’s all we will be in reality under the helm of these frauds running the show.

Bayside Argonauts spend more on their senior team. Malvern when they get promoted into VPL 2 will likely spend more than us. They are Greek clubs with ambition, and in Malverns case, their junior program has surpassed the so called best junior program we had in the state. Heck Chisholm if they ever get promoted to State 1 will likely spend more than us.

The mid season recruits are all State League level or VpL 2 level players at best. But with what we’re paying (and that’s if we’re paying at all) that’s all you can expect with this board. They couldn’t even hold onto Mells for more then half the season, but then again why would your marquee signing stay if they weren’t being paid.

We’re slowly going down the route of Port Melbourne. I’d argue a merger wouldn’t br a terrible thing, and something that Port needs more then South but we also could do with. Partnering with South Springvale and Yarraville hasn’t benefitted the club in any way, both those clubs facilities are dreadful and there’s no benefit for the club, if anything the junior program has suffered as a result.

Everyone’s too chicken to talk about the real issues at South. But we’re a dying club. That’s the reality. Slowly sailing into the ocean with no real destination, just more and more into the abyss.

So your "solution" is to merge with Port Melbourne? Seriously? Their local council makes the State Athletics Trust seem like kindergarteners. Or is it to "open the wallet" and sign a marquee player (despite claiming we are broke anyway?) to do what exactly? We arent getting relegated, we have already qualified for the Championship for this year and, realistically, not really progressing in the cup or playing finals ... what would be the point of an unnecessary expense now? To achieve what exactly? Another Dockerty cup to put in the cabinet, or ANOTHER finals appearance just to say we made it AGAIN....

Your obviously disgruntled at the current board but you offer nothing apart from personal attacks and claims you refuse to prove as they are unprovable... Ive spoken to 5 players over the past month or so and they ALL dispute your claims about not getting paid.. Sure maybe they are lying or don't want to cause problems but they seemed truthful to me. If you can prove otherwise Im listening....

The previous mob had their day and didnt do much with it. They never fostered meaningful relationships with other Greek clubs either but I see people from Malvern, Aris and Doxa at South games (and many of their juniors) these days, if nothing else THAT is paying off at the turnstiles... Last week we got 6K to a regular season match ... when was the last time THAT happened? We played Preston, who 2 decades ago would have meant riot squad and fights in the stands and your big complaint was a bunch of teenagers and poorly drawn bed sheet glorifying an ancient Greek city state battle against other Greek city states??? Big shit, don't worry yourself, their weren't any slav Macedonians in the area in 336bc let alone present at the battle mate, it was just their way of respecting OUR history. I was just happy they turned up, paid a ticket, chanted, let off a few flares and then went home..... I hope they come again in the same spirit next time.....

Its sad you think we are a dying club JUST when, after nearly 20 years, we are slowly waking up from our sleep and becoming relevant again... You may not like that the new sleeping beauty doesnt look like the old one but alot has changed over 20 years.... The only way we die is if we continue to stagnate in the NPL as just another mid table team... or even worse, some arseholes passion project, willing to throw silly money at medicore talent just to lay claim to be being the biggest state league club in Melbourne.... We are South Melbourne Hellas and by hook or by crook we will play on the national stage, on maybe even the world one, again....

Isn't SMFC an Australian club ? Confused !

No doubt we create some chances, more in the last month especially, against thunder how many of our 3 key chances suited a fornaroli style striker? 1, the one that was cut back and sprayed! The rest were long balls in were they not? How many hoals do you remember him scoring from long high balls?

This is my point mid season you buy a striker that suits your style you dont buy one and then suit your style to them and expect to see results..

No one was asking you, Skippy.

And anyway, this is an Anglo country, that you were more than likely born and bred in.
Happily neither born nor bred here, try hard highlander, but fully proud and loud about my heritage and culture as is my right!! ..incase your worried of some invasion i am citizen though, if you wanted to see the paperwork!

We should have signed Liston Diaz at the start of the season. Another example of how bad our recruitment was. Hopefully we can sign him in the window now but might be tough as he’s club captain at Port. If the club don’t want to spend the money the likes of Avondale, Oakleigh and Preston are now these are the types we need to be targeting

Try reading the post over again mate.
What am i missing here ?

I consider Malvern, Aris and Doxa as Australian clubs mate... old mate was wanting to "connect the Greek tribes" whats your point?
