Heres hoping south hobart sorts its issues out and gets one of those spots..same with canberra...
one can only imagine the lustre if the NST has a team from canberra, Tas a team from WA and a Qld outfit all established... 1 away from 14 team full round league! If we can scurry a team from NT this league could effevtively be pan-australian! What a marketing ploy/first right there against all codes and leagues!!

Wishful thinking i know, but its good to dream..
Gungahlin United just needs the money apparently.

In terms of “technical” though, I’m surprised Canberra Croatia doesn’t meet the criteria - unless of course they haven’t applied

Listened to Zeljko's Kalac interview and I've changed my mind hearing him in context compared to the short clip

his nst comments I think are ok if you take them charitably - it sounds like he would prefer the fa to subsidize the wages.

Still I didn't like the comment on subsidizing with the youth. There is already a regulation forbidding that and I haven't seen evidence that seniors are funded by juniors

Rumour on a league reddit

Someone claims they heard that the fa is waiting for a league tv rights to expire so nst and a league rights can be sold in a single package

Not sure how that works since fa and a league are separate

Yeah not sure how to take that Reddit post. FA have already announced an October start, not September. And a 4x4 group stage double round robin, that's 6 rounds plus 4 rounds of finals, 10 total, not 12 as redditor says. Maybe they're extending two of the finals' rounds to be two-legged.
And I thought NST rights were already packaged as part of the deal FA did last year (that wasn't announced though).

My first instinct was that poster is full of shit haha. But maybe something has changed at FA HQ.

When do they expire?
A-League end of 25-26 season. FA's deal to 2028.

FA and APL have stated they will work together and package up for the best broadcast deals. So splitting the national teams from A-Leagues and NST would go against this.

FA are ultimately in charge of the Apl. JJ did say that they will work together in some capacity.

Better late than never I suppose.....
In this situation you could make the argument that it's better to be late than early. They didn't have to deal with all the bullshit the 8 foundation clubs have had to deal with and they still have the possibility of competing (or even winning) in this years half-arsed championship competition.

Thats a good point..... I wonder who "blinked" at the negotiating table though FA or Knights?

We need a fly on the wall at FA and APL, like how AFL has Caro and Eddie. Someone who can actually communicate WTF goes on inside the four walls on a weekly basis.
have no clue who your talking about and seeing the topic don't want to know :)

Pincic ended his address with an update on the clubs National Second Tier ambitions. He confirmed that after a recent meeting with Football Australia, the club has officially submitted its expression of interest for the next stage of applications, with the hope of being admitted to the competition in 2026.

2026? has the FA confirmed the format for this year? is it only the founding 8 member clubs who are going to part-take in this competition for 2025?

8x founding clubs and 8 x NPL premiers (or second place if Premier is also existing NST club) ... groups of 4 for 6 matchdays H/A then finals Oct-December 2025 ... Then 2026 ..... your guess is as good as mine :)

Potential South Australia and northern Queensland team to come in
Adelaide City announced a while back that they're a definite in for 26. If FA have gone after another from SA, that could be Metrostars or the merger.

And north Queensland, wow, that's awesome but will also add hefty costs for the league. I wonder if Fury are returning?
