The Oakleigh sponsored ref called it in a fraction of a second despite having an obstructed view and the lino being behind 2 players backs.... Ill accept the goal, based on how Javi reacted and it did seem to be a closec all.... NO VAR in NPL so whether it was fully over the line or not will never know.....

George Mells.... you absolute superstar.... what a cracker son, goal of the round for me ... Bonada MOM by a Loooong margin but overall an emphatic win and solid Hellas football, much much better than the Port game... Got our shooting boots on, solid defensively (apart from 1-2 defensive errors, one of which the Knights picked up on , that speedy little Asian winger 22 was very tricky and gave Lampard a hard time) ... and the big Viking scored. :love: :love: Last 20 or so minutes was 1st gear, mid block Esteban ball at its finest ..... Its gonna be a good season boys and girls...

They've gotta stop that playing out of the back garbage ... got caught out a dozen times last night.... Franjic needs to set them up to play to their strengths, quick ball movement, solid centre, and going wide.... And sheesh learn to defend a set piece, even without any height on the pitch from us they almost copped a few more...

Knights will play finals football this year.
 
Gotta say, Im happy with the front of shirt being Playermaker .... suits the pinstripe design and makes the new kit pop ....

Helps that a FIFAPRO approved football app company chooses to support us too. :love: :love:

Its always hard to tell from the stands and on teh stream as the membes lounges in the back are pretty packed and you cant see them but I would guesstimate 1,000 to 1,500. Not good but not terrible for a Monday...

It still amazes me how misleading the stream is from when you're there.

I was with someone from another club and he was going on about how good of a crowd it was and i said to him i bet it looks empty on tv lol.

The higher up you are the better the view is, the back 3-4 rows are the cushioned seats which everyone prefers anyway.

I know what you mean.... we have a loooong way to go to get crowds up if we wanna be sustainable in a national comp thats for sure.

I personally believe that we have a big problem that cant be solved.

Not to go all smfcmike here but we are a top flight club playing in a suburban competition, problem is we arent a genuine suburban club. Our supporters are travelling anywhere between 30-90 minutes to attend our home games, after 20 years and changing days/times we play our games nothing seems viable. None of our supporters live in Albert park or the surrounding suburbs (a handful maybe in port melbourne).

Our location was and would be perfect for top flight football (central location) but for the local stuff its killing us and winter makes it much worse.

Look at Preston, BT connor reserve is in Reservoir and 80% of their matchday attendances are coming from the suburbs just north of it (Thomastown, Lalor, Epping). We dont have this and never will. Hell a lot of South fans actually live in those suburbs!

We have a big social media profile and following, our matches tend to be the most viewed streams, but none of this is being converted to gameday attendances. We are the only club where you can find 30 supporters in the social club, ask them where they live, and you will hear close to 30 different suburbs named...from every corner of Melbourne! And yet its all to our detriment.

100% agree.. I have often said that IF back in 2005-6 we "moved" the club to somewhere like Oakleigh for example, outr attendance, even now would be astronomical... No easy solution to this I guess, no way all the 2nd and 3rd generation Greek Australians are moving back to Albert Park now ... unless yiayia and pappou kept the terrace house in South Yarra or Albert Park:)

They only SAVING grace is that our dispersed fanbase was also the case back in the NSL days.... and we managed to OK... I think its more a case of playing in a nothing state comp for 20 years thats the issue ... build it and they will come back... Get us playing the Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide clubs again for meaningful competition and once again we'll thruw 6-7 people into the Kingswood and drive to Paradise by the lake :)

Maybe the club could do more to attract local in person viewers. Could we make an effort to appeal to the many South American's fans (especially in south bank)? Maybe, I don't think we are allowed to drink beer in the stands anymore (correct me if I'm wrong), the Brits that I've encountered love that fact that you can drink in ur seat at A-League games, so maybe its worth a shot.

Thats a crucial Plan B I think .... our "geographic" community is ripe for the picking, we just need to spread our marketing to the surrounding areas ... playing in a national, televised comp may do that...

It was only a once off but a couple of years ago South media team appealed to the Ange love amongst the local Celtic ex-pat fan base and offered free entry for a match against Avondale ..... It was pretty well attended....

If i had to break it down it would be 45% South east (oakleigh and surrounds) 45% North (Northcote and surrounds) 10% West.

Now here is the problem, 90% of our significant fan base areas are stacked with local Greek clubs.

The nsl has no relevance, in a national comp you want to be centrally located, everybody would flock to the city to watch South, no different to going in there to watch afl.

Whilst it does nothing for the clubs bottom line, the geographical distribution does at least give the team good support for certain away games.

A relocation to Oakleigh 20 years ago would have been met with hostility as they hate South so i dont think it would have ever been on the cards. If you look at where South home games have been played when Lakeside is unavailable we tend to be more liked in the North and West. Our matches in Northcote during 2010-11 seasons were well attended, would have been even better if they had lights at the time.
