much better than those "football, but not as you know it" or "90min, 90 Emotions" ads. lol
I thought the early Aleague adds were pretty slick... The messaging aside they seem to have worked in bringing a brand new audience to the sport... Sad that they felt they had to step on our corpses to do it but eh, Lowy was always a vindictive cunt.

What I like about this new approach is FA is clearly trying to heal the rift and bring these old clubs back into the fold... Why that is is anyones guess, but I suspect its because of a realization that there is a whole market outt ehre that feels diesnfrancsheid and FA is looking for a new start... Maybe Im just a cynical old bastard and they really DO want mainstream Australia to forget the anti effniks messaging they have been peddling for 20 years... time will tell.

One thing is for sure, they go out of their way to highlight Lakeside as a historic stadium.... maybe JJ is the only one in all of football that likes our food

It's not guaranteed. And it's soccer in Australia as well.
Nah it was ALWAYS going to be a marketing slam dunk. The average Joe Blow Aussie sports nut sees state parochialism as the be all and end all of sport in this country .... SOE is huge in NRL and is remembered fondly and called for every year for AFL too. I reckon anyone in Perth or Adealide would pay to watch women's badminton if it was against the "Victorians"

After the events of the past week, a line should be put through Heidelberg (sadly). If you arent capable of hosting npl matches then you arent championship material.
I sort of feel sorry for them in a way ... I dont agree with how they've handled it but I do understand their worry about crowd issues. It won't be the couple of hundred die hard Bergers fans that rock up to cause mischief it will be the internet warriors with megaphones and Star of Vergina flags that have been waiting for a punch on for 20 years.... PLUS whatever opportunistic plastic ultra wannabes have ties to them.... They clearly dont have the capacity or willingness to have to go through what Northcote copped and in a way I dont blame them.....

Can someone give me a short explainer what all this Heidelberg/Preston stuff is about?

No idea.

What we do know is Heidelberg actually have a great venue to host of a game of this magnititude, they've literally hosted 2 of the past 3 npl grand finals.

They've managed to move it somewhere where theirs a higher chance of trouble. The entry point alone is a recipe for disaster.

Football victoria dont care because they have a hard on for the home of the matildas training venue. Literally they're the only ones that rate it for big fixtures.

so having 11k against Melbourne City at olympic village who have active fans was no issue, but you cant host Preston?

reading between the lines, its poor form the bergers.

i was at Olympic Village in 2015 when we played the Bergers in the FFA Cup. Even with 3k in Attendance with a couple hundred Croats and 50 flares, there was no issues lol.
Impossible, Havent you heard of the thousands of years of war between Greeks and Croats and how that trickled down into pitched battles in the NSL, so much blood.......

Yeah man I dont disagree but what I hear is that the FV insisted on this being treated as a "hostile match" and Bergers asked to increase security by 4 times the guards AND pay for it .... I don't honestly now if it's true or not....

From my perspective, I agree with southmelb, OV is perfect for this type of game, easy to keep both sets of fans separate, Northland car park and gate for Preston, Catalina St for Bergers, easy.... HOTM is at the end of a 4-5 huge empty poorly lit uni carparks and one road in or out ..... what could go wrong if there are gangs of Aleague animals prowling around outside waiting to start some shit???

The only slam dunk was that it was going to do better than pitching football to just Greek Victorians. It is a numbers game.

Don't disagree with this but its important to know who and why this decision was made. It is mental to me that this decision was taken. Surely Heidelberg, with their stadium and infrastructure, were best positioned to host Preston of anyone else in the league.
