The Australian Championship Thread

FYI I have been doing this for years and had a dedicated FB page to promote the streams. Even when the NPL made it extremely difficult, I still got numbers consistently up over 1k concurrent viewers. Sometimes 2 or 3.

Im not suprised... NPL VIC has been a gamblers favourite for a long time .... Not even going to ask what the odds were for a Dinamo win on Monday night... I guess we'll find out on Friday if one of the board members rocks up with a new Porsche :(

It's the same story in the A-League. Standalone midweek matches are the highest rated. Don't compete with other matches, don't compete with other sports, and weeknight stay at home fans. Good for the views but not so much the atmosphere, which is part of the selling point. It's a tricky balance.

However, participation in a new Oceanic league would be at direct odds with their participation in Football Australia’s (FA) new Australian Championship, a competition they’ve fought very hard to create.

South Melbourne have revealed themselves as one of the four Australian clubs that have expressed interest in the OFC Pro League.

Would they be able to compete in AFC comps, AL and Championship or would they then be considered an Oceania club?

They would be considered an OFC club, probably will base their registered license for it in New Zealand.

They want to play their reserves in it. Not sure how that would work tbh. Like the AL clubs, their reserves should play NPL.

One of the other Aussie clubs to apply was Sunshine Coast. No clue who they other two applicants are.

edit: If South are in NPL, NSD and OFC they would need to pull out of one comp, realistically it would be the NPL considering they don't need to qualify for the NSD as they are a foundation club + they helped set it up. Also I'm guessing South are banking on the fact that the NSD will be a "proper league" in a hand full of seasons.

yeah if they play in the ofc and nst thats probably ok if every one allows it
 
Not a chance of reserves or youth teams in the Championship. The clubs themselves made that clear I thought. It would be state level for South's reserves, like the A-League clubs. As their first team would be in OFC and NST, their reserves might have to re-enter from lower in the pyramid, I would guess. Practically running 12 months of the year, must be worth it financially.

ofc is probably only 14 games to start and nst is just 6+3 to start so a maximum of 23 games. Different if it is h&a nst mind you
