World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

If we're sticking with the 5-2-3, considering current availability, I'd like to see this:

Gauci
Geria - Matthews - Burgess
Bennie ----------------------------- Goodwin
Triantis - Luongo
Irankunda - Toure - Segecic
0-2 Indonesia

My squad for next window. Won't get it of course.

Ryan Izzo (Gauci)

Strain, Bennie, Geria, Burgess, Rowles, Degenek, Iredale, Elder

Irvine, O'Neill, Triantis, Balard, Robertson, Nisbet, Metcalfe, Segecic

Boyle, Goodwin, Mo Toure, Irankunda, Velupillay, Yengi, Botic

I doubt Langerak will get called in. If Gauci doesn't make it then 3rd keeper may be Chapman? Pretty open.

I think Degenek has been playing in Serbia and we need the experience. There's enough versatility for LWB too. I don't think it'd be wild to put Strain at LWB and have Bennie or Metcalfe on the right. Well, I watched Metcalfe at LWB in Hannover and he was perfectly fine there.

Lots of names warrant selection. Perhaps our defensive woes aren't as bad as they seem but having Souttar, Circati and Matthews would be great.

Quite like this squad. Well balanced with a mix of experience and reward for those playing well. Only other addition I would like to see would be Kikianis

Notes:
  • This is a provisional squad, meaning it may be trimmed to 23-26 players closer to the match dates, as is typical for FIFA qualifiers.
  • Club affiliations are based on the latest known data as of March 2025, but some players (e.g., Bagaskara, Malik Fajar) lack clear club details in the provided sources, indicating they may be from domestic leagues or recently transferred.

New Faces in the Squad
Based on comparisons with previous squads under Shin Tae-yong (e.g., the November 2024 squad for matches against Japan and Saudi Arabia) and posts on X, the following players appear to be new additions or notable inclusions under Patrick Kluivert:
  1. Ole Romeny (Midfielder, FC Utrecht, Netherlands):
    • A Dutch-born player of Indonesian descent, Romeny is a fresh face in the senior national team. The 24-year-old forward/winger has been with FC Utrecht since 2023 and brings versatility to the midfield. His inclusion aligns with Indonesia’s ongoing strategy of recruiting diaspora talent.
  2. Bagaskara (Midfielder, Club TBD, Indonesia):
    • Mentioned as a new call-up by
      @sagitariwus
on X, Bagaskara is likely a domestic player, though specific details about his club and background are unclear from available data. This could indicate a focus on emerging local talent under Kluivert.
Notable Absences:
  • Asnawi Mangkualam (previously with Port FC, Thailand) - Not included this time, possibly due to injury, form, or tactical preference.
  • Witan Sulaeman (Persik Kediri, Indonesia) - A regular under Shin, his absence is notable and could reflect a shift in strategy.
  • Yakob Sayuri and Yance Sayuri (both PSM Makassar, Indonesia) - The brothers, previously sidelined by injuries, remain absent.

Thats a lie. Where did you get 25 games appearance and averaging 60 m/ a game for Oxford UTD from?

Marselino Ferdinan only played 1 FA Cup game for Oxford UTD (and only played 1 minute)

Actually he's not a bench warmer cuz he never in the squad in the championship.
The reason he got 1 minute on the pitch in FA cup (1st round exit) is because oxford utd owner is Indonesian.

I couldnt bother double check the rest ...

If this guy avaraging 60 m in the champipnship he would have been all over asean page every week since he is a full indonesian NOT half or mixed blood.

Chatgtp as said in the post. Can't vouch for its reliability

I think we have to go 433 in this game given all the injuries to cbs, we cant play 3 6 1 without weakening the side. He likes to rotate players so I have indicated which players I'd rotate

-----------------ryan----------------
-strain/miller-burgess-rowles-behich/garuccio
----------irvine---triantis/oniell----
---------------luongo--------------------
-irankunda/villupilay-toure/yengi-goodwin

Not amazing by any stretch of the imagination but hopefully enough to get the job done. Would like a 2nd number 10
