World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

There would be no prob getting Visa's being Aussies.
I travel to Mex every year couple of times no fuss and even with the Trump pot stirring looking ahead.
Tourism is tourism same would apply with Canada.
Its tourism revenue.

issue is people from South America are worried they wont be able to get visas in time to watch their own teams play... let alone countries like Iran if they qualify.... Also, will Mexicans or Canadians be able to enter the US by then?

Sure Aussies shouldnt have too much of a problem getting into the states, but it IS a big wide world mate.

And if you are an effnik Aussie - it may still be a problem to get a visa. And given that native Americans are getting deported until the authorities realise that they are already in their own country. Yeah, nah.

If you have an Australian Passport you will have no problem gaining access unless you have a personal record that comes up on the US no visa list. It's those countries not on the Visa Waiver scheme that will possibly have some delays.

Correct and that is standard even pre Trump re the Visa Waiver scheme.
The US has been way more on guard re visa’s since 911 and if they decide to go harder how it goes and that’s politics.

Mono, Canadians won’t have issues unless they have a record I suspect.
Mexicans, the fellow biz guys I deal and travel with annually for a while have issues gaining visa’s depending the country and situations for ages.
It takes them ages waiting for approvals sometimes not given.
Not new to them - many Latino countries due to their unrest or Gov politics with USA can’t even get out of their own countries.
Anyway what happens happens think it’s all premature at this period of time.

Just re-read what I wrote and what a mess.

I have been to the USA before on my Aussie passport, the only one I have, for business purposes. No issues in getting a visa. Once there though, I was continually stopped and searched because I am Latino. The Guardian has reported that Native Americans are being detained because they look foreign.

For the record, the two worst countries for officialdom that I have travelled to (30 countries and all but three on business) have been Qatar and the USA.

Had Australia done the job last window it'd be much more relaxed than now. The dream is 2 wins in the next window, Japan 2 wins vs ME, Indonesia-Bahrain draw and somehow Saudi not beating China. Pretty unlikely. Some results could set things up due to the H2H in the final round. Minuscule milestone is Australia secure a place in the next round at least.

This window potentially gives Australia chance to boost its GD as hopefully the ME teams lose heavily in Japan. China away in something of a wildcard/ free hit with the result being a big determiner is how the group balances. I'd take Australia 13 +5 and Saudi 9 -1 GD in a heartbeat after this window.

I'd be ok with it
Aus 11 +3
Saudi 9 -3
Other 3 on 7 pts. Indonesia- Bahrain and another where a 3 pointer can put the winner is a better place to try and snatch 2nd but likely finish top 4.

Bahrain-Saudi on 2nd last day is something of a joker for Australia. Could be a clean Saudi win but Bahrain aren't going to lie down. It's vital Bahrain get a max of 1 point next window but then probably best to beat Saudi and then they hopefully stuff up China away. Should Australia lose to China, China go to Indonesia and host Bahrain to finish, they'll taste blood. One game at a time, right?

This would be my team for the March qualifiers, based on players that will hopefully be available. We've got to value and reward players that are playing at a decent level and are in form. Popovic's team won't be anything like this I'm sure, but this is my 26 man squad. Interested in everyone's thoughts:

Ryan Langerak Izzo

Bennie Strain

Burgess Rowles Ja Iredale Geria Matthews

Bos Elder

Triantis Devlin Balard Irvine Luongo Nisbet

C Goodwin Segecic Milanovic Drew Vellupilay

K Yengi Botic Boyle

I really like the squad, presuming Popa is going to leave his balls at home and go the same system, only changes I'd make:
- Gauci for Langerak - sadly I think that ship has sailed and Gauci getting minutes now
- Borello for Yengi - rather leave the big guy at home and build up to full fitness
- Not sure on Drew also considering yet to play in Austria. Might be better to let him settle. Silvera call up instead? Could also call up A Goodwin with Boyle's flexibility.

I don't disagree with anyone's inclusion there. Got some injuries to monitor and sadly it's the desired changes we just won't see. Expect Behich, Miller and Caceres to be picked.

Realistically some of the wingers are there for cameos if at all. With Garang back fit and in some form, it wouldn't be the worst inclusion. I don't think Atkinson or Leckie will be recalled but maybe Popovic is interested in the experience they bring.
