World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

If we're sticking with the 5-2-3, considering current availability, I'd like to see this:

Gauci
Geria - Matthews - Burgess
Bennie ----------------------------- Goodwin
Triantis - Luongo
Irankunda - Toure - Segecic
I wonder if gerias spot is in trouble with him not playing for his job league club so far

Like it a lot. Perhaps the midfield forward link has space between it but Segecic can drop back while Goodwin pulls ahead.

Yeah could be replaced by Rowles or Iredale with Mathews shifting to RCB.

I like Geria because he's so quick and positive at closing space. And okay passing forward. I hope he gets gametime soon.

Mathews works at RCB okay though.

Would be happy with this! Really keen to see Bennie, Triantis and Segecic in the next window

TFM says 30 March is first round. If he starts well and scores he might be an option as a false 9 in the June qualifiers.

Any one have any intel on his or stensness injuries or form?
As far as I am aware, Stensness is still out for the season with a knee injury - please see Quicky's Medical Room thread.

Viking have played 3 Friendlies so far this month. According to Sofascore, D'Agostino started all of them and scored in the first one. I haven't been able to find any more detailed information, so I don't know how many minutes he played in each Friendly or if he scored in more than the first one.

Mate I dont derive the same joy from watching players as I do clubs.... More power to you and the other hardy souls that trawl the net for stats and streams and random backwater matches... I wish we had a few players (a handfull will do) that played in a league with a bit more respectability... I know I know, ELOs and "holy trinity league" and new generation of NC players coming through and all that.... but another HK at Liverpool, Timmy at Everton or Dukes at Leeds would at least give us something to hope for...

Irakunda could get there playing quite well in Switzerland. Circati should be playing seria a if he wasn't injured

Looks like highly experienced Joey Pelupessy will be called up for Indonesia. Their squad is just full of European developed pros now. It's a while different ball game.

Australia has a lot of depth and we can thank Arnold among others for that. It's just vital everyone digs deep the next window.

Massive headaches and unpredictability. Australia simply need to win and the other non Japan matches being draws are a bonus. Dream situation is then 13 pts to 7 everywhere else. It'd be a 6 point and 5 or more GD turnaround needed. Given the ensuing H2H it'll probably be alright. Just wild to near impossible but last window saw every single result go Australia's way except their own, would be the ME teams losing both the next games and then hopefully Indonesia China draw in June before Indonesia have Japan away to finish.

I reckon 8 more points from the last 4 games will probably be enough. I also think we need two wins from this upcoming window.
