2025 Australia Cup

Will start with the very easy ones, and update this post as I progress.

I've just added each region that exists at the moment (with zero numbers). Will do my best to ensure that NPL/State League clubs (generally metro) that compete from other regions in the state are captured in the region they're from. (Examples: Yoogali SC and Wagga City Wanderers competing out of Riverina, NSW - La Fiamma in WA leagues competing out of Mid-West/Gascoyne - will try to include these alongside the stats because I think these types of clubs deserve a little bit of extra praise)

Extra little tid-bit : the numbers will slightly vary from the table posted earlier - Am basing this off the fixtures/results list for each member federation.

2025 Australia Cup schedule – Tasmania,
Round 3: Friday March 7th/Saturday March 8th/Sunday March 9th/Monday March 10th
Round 4: Friday March 28th/Saturday March 29th/Sunday March 30th
Round 5: Friday April 18th/Saturday April 19th/Monday April 21st
Round 6: Friday May 16th/Saturday May 17th/Sunday May 18th
Round 7: Saturday June 7th/Sunday June 8th/Monday June 9th

Need to get a lot more of the regional leagues involved.
I guess it's partially because it starts so early in the year. Most regional leagues (in Victoria at least) start when the metro leagues start. That's a good month after State League, and a good two months after the first cup games. Getting that many registered players by then is near impossible.

Good to know. How does regional Queensland manage to play their qualifiers late January though? I kinda feel like if it's working well somewhere, then others should try to copy it. I hear a lot of excuses in Australian football.

Yeah I'm not sure - a lot of Vic clubs outside of State League have the option to go in or not. Some do, but a hell of a lot don't. Agree it would be good to get more in.

From what I've gathered today, Regional QLD has their own bracket until there is only one remaining - this club then enters the final round of QLD's preliminary rounds.

Here's the breakdown by regions for 2024 entries - based off official results pages + Wikipedia.

I have done my best to breakdown clubs that are competing in State/NPL leagues into the region that best fits.

I'm actually quite disgusted at the Metro NSW figures. It's such a shame that there are as many clubs to the west of the Blue Mountains that entered the Australia Cup last year, as in the Manly-Warringah region of Sydney. Sure, that's only out of 18 clubs. 4 out of 18 clubs in that region of Sydney though, they don't have to be guaranteed travel like those clubs from Bathurst, Orange and Griffith are almost guaranteed of.

Although, in saying that, it looks like FNSW possibly did a Queensland and grouped some of the regional teams together in the first round, as Yoogali travelled to Orange, and both Bathurst sides played eachother. Of the other regional NSW teams in that round:
  • St George Basin (Shoalhaven) were drawn to play Western Condors (Southern Districts), but forfeited the match.
  • Goulburn Strikers (Southern Tablelands), and Bowral (Highlands) both received a bye to the next round
  • MBK United (Southern Tablelands) travelled to Wollongong Olympic (South Coast)
  • Marulan (Southern Tablelands) travelled to Albion Park (South Coast)
  • Shoalhaven United (Shoalhaven) travelled to Normanhurst Eagles (North-West Sydney)
Second round saw only four regional clubs remain: Yoogali FC (Griffith), Goulburn Strikers, Bowral and Panorama (Bathurst)
  • Yoogali FC drawn to play at home to Inter Lions (Canterbury)
  • Bowral drawn to play at home to Waverley Old Boys (Eastern Suburbs)
  • Panorama drawn away to Hurstville Glory (St George) - and winning!
  • Goulburn Strikers drawn to play at home to Lindfield (Northern Suburbs)
Panorama then went on to progress after a forfeit by Mounties Wanderers (Southern Districts) after they didn't travel to Bathurst, and were knocked out in the Fifth Round by Coniston (South Coast) who did make the trip to Bathurst.

Australia Cup nominations in Queensland close tomorrow 5pm.

The draw for the opening rounds will then be conducted in the coming weeks!

I've loved watching these games on 10play over the laast few years. Particularly the grass roots early rounds matches....

Probably the best thing ever to happen to club football in Australia
I always try and go to one game per round but I always end up short.

I'm a big fan of these kind of national cup competition's and I think that perhaps within a few decades the Australia Cup will have a similar resonance here that the FA Cup has had in England and the French Cup has had in France. It's completely unique in Australian sport.

And yes, I am probably a bit of an optimist about this kind of thing but it just has a great feel about the whole set up.
