2025 Hahn Australia Cup

That’s why I said it makes you wonder..because it’s hard to tell based on the data points we have. Both state league and Australia cup games aren’t exactly comparable to what it would be like week in week out in the A league or championship. You’d have the increased profile of the club, you’d have the selling point of being the pinnacle of the local game, you’d build habits of regular fandom etc, but you’d lose the novelty factor
Im not being funny mate but didn't the nsl fail like what could be done differently this time? Again I just want football to win I'm not an a league elitest or anything
Just on Melbourne City how disrespectful to play your NPL youth team (average age 17 apparently) in a national cup comp - got what you deserved
That's fair

I think you’re misconstruing what I’m saying, I’m merely saying it makes you wonder what sorts of crowds these clubs would be capable of in todays day and age if the shackles were hypothetically taken off and if the full force of the game was put behind them, because the crowds in state league aren’t analogous.

I don’t claim they would be getting the biggest crowds in the A league, I’ve constantly said I think there was merit to the founding of clubs like Sydney fc and Melb victory, i have no problem with their existence, there was a demand for them etc.

would they be capable of the sorts of crowd MacArthur and western united get but with a more sustainable business model? Maybe, probably. Just an interesting thought experiment.

Have said before, the crowds in the final season of the nsl are publicly available, would they be the same as that? Would they be slightly better now that the games profile has improved markedly since then/post the 05/06 World Cup qualification and campaign, improved professionalism etc

Yeah there is definitely potential. We need a fooking admin to get this second division going

I'm sorry I don't mean to be a dick but these are one of games the tricky part is getting decent crowds every week to games.
Heres an idea, maybe just go off the crowds we cant record, off the comp we arent being given...

What the cup proves (it seems to all other than the FA) is that the crowds are there (dormant a little perhaps) but you need the comp to deliver accordingly.. which is our argument all along, with a h&a comp the cream again will rise on and off the park..

If Im honest I would much prefer to watch NPL v NPL (diff state fed teams) than A League it just has a better feel to it (NST is a must but I fear it wont really happen)

yep yep and yep......
The AL fellas can stick with their side and we IF it ever happens can have our own NST/NSD/Championship league, I have no care what it gets called just Open the gate lets bloody well start in our 2bob grounds, the rest comes as it gains traction.

The opposite for me, and i mean in every country in the world. If it is not in the top league i have zero interest in it. The four seasons that Rangers were in the lower leagues, were the worst four seasons of my 50 odd years as a supporter, truly dreadful.

Keegs im 100% with you, the feel unless they live it they will never understand it, its not about any overporduction experience to compete with other codes, its real and raw football rivlaries that are tied to their fanbases/community... its a different passion bc supporter and team are one!

We do have to try NST though.. in another thread i and many others here alluded to your idea above as a much needed contingency plan bc my fear is the same as yours.. initially if need be to let it be a 4 or 5 state NPL super league with the teams that finish bottom playing off against the winner of their origin NPL but even that alas seems too difficult for the powers that be!

And this is a factor re support/crowds at traditional clubs, i dare say this is the norm rather than the exception. Hence my above assertion re state league crowds not being analogous etc

though ofcourse it would be your worst time after all the years of being in top flight/titles etcetc no doubt going down (and worse how/why) over 50yrs following would have been the worst.
Its the lesson that goes part and parcel in the game as you know sutho.
So you had zero interest through that stage ? that I wouldn't expect from you.
I suppose everyone varies in their outlook.

One of my fellow team mates is a born bred derby man, to this day every friday golf game he discuss's whats going on - the highs the lows but never ever no interest, he's diehard and always has hope.
Same with a another Leeds local mate.

Yes I get that if Liverpool ever sank to those depths I would feel the same but flip the thing around and look from the bottom up and if your team had the chance to play better opposition, move higher in the leagues etc the excitement can be just as good (well nearly ;) ) imagine if a Preston or Marconi were mixing it in the A League or the NST thats where the game grows from the ground up to me

Don't get me wrong i still attended and watched the lower league games, but fuck it was a struggle. I never got to the stage where i lost any interest though. I do try and watch championship and early cup rounds, but it just doesn't interest me anymore, just like international boreball and the fake Champions league.
