2025 Hahn Australia Cup

Why, I thought SH had a decent crack at it?
It was the feeling of a few of the SM players after the game.

South H had quite a few shorts, and played some good early balls from accelerated attacks into the box. They also had a similar shots at goal compared to SM until late in the game.

I've had a good look at the replay, which had a better view than I did live.

The level of SM's Squeezing was more intense that anything in the Tas NPL over 90 mins. SM stopped SH from playing long spells of possession.

We need a team in Tas that plays against a team the quality of SM, and better, every week to improve. SH can keep the ball for sustained periods in the Tas NPL, as can most teams.

Tas teams need to play under match conditions on a regular basis, against teams the quality of SM. They were able to close down and condense space as a co-ordinated team unit, enough over sustained periods so that SH usually coughed the ball up under pressure after about 3 passes.

SH, lIke SM, also missed quite a few shots. Oats, the SH player who came on as a sub and nearly scored in the 90th min, I've taught with both his parents in different settings.

Conversely, SM were sometimes able to play out, and build up slowly, then change the rhythm of the game, with quicker spells of play. Generally, SM had better first touches and control under pressure, plus many SM players used the body swerve/shoulder feint effectively too in tight spaces.

Also in SM's Squeezing in the attacking half, they were able to force SH players to have a body shape facing towards their own goal, so they couldn't play with their body position facing forwards.

SH and SM were pretty evenly matched in physical body on body 1v1 duels.

Gee, we need a Tassie team in AL 2, and promo/releg system between AL 1, AL 2 and the NPL.Then we'd have the entire Aus football community playing on the same weekends, all interconnected, with an eye kept on who is going up a div, and who will be relegated.

SM showed a better standard of play to the Tassie football community. Fair play to them!

Excellent post, and I said pretty much the same for Darwin Olympic and the NT league. They are physically up to it, no issue there. But they are lacking tactically due to the coaching, and in match sharpness due to zero gametime against high standard teams.

They would be an apt candidate for the NST if it weren't for the tyranny of distance and criminal airfares.
