A-league attendances 24/25

Yeah but the tired old trope is that children of migrant parents who are proud of their ethnicity somehow arent as "Australian" as the anglo kids.... its 2025 and this is still a thing here....
I never said they weren't as Australian as the anglo kids. The ones i know refuse to be Australian.

Example: My manager was born in Australia 60 years ago and has never stepped one foot in Greece, but refuses to call himself an Aussie.

Nah man, the guy is sincere.... its a valid convo... APL (in my opinion) is barking up the wrong tree trying to fish where the fish aren't... I contend they should look at re-gaining their lapsed supporters (as should the old NSL clubs btw)...
The APL, the FA, the FFA, the SA, Australian Soccer Federation of whatever the admin has been called for the last 50 years has barked up the wrong tree.
Yes it's a niche sport, but its bigger than most think, Football is bigger than AFL in Sydney (not A-League) but football.
Most people in Sydney would recognise the names Pele, Maradona & Messi more than Barissi, Abblett or Matthews. Most could understand the difference between the formation of 442 or 351 than tell you the difference between a full forward to a half forward flank ruckman.
So AFL is a niche sport in Sydney but they can pull 40K to a game, so why can't the APL.

But thats EXACLTY what Im trying to tell you mate.... AFL and NRL appeal to the mainstream as a cultural recreation .. People down here go to "the footy" they dont go just to follow their clubs and in fact purists done here hate how the AFL GF is usually 80% neutral event goers... fact is it is so deeply ingrained that club support is almost an afterthought. .. The real football is (around the world and I wish it was the same here) a tribal CLUB FIRST sport....

which is why Im saying they should go back to trying to get those 60K back NOT just go out to primary schools to try and find the next batch of customers....
Sydney is full of " Event goers ". They are always more likely to turn up to an international or a friendly against a European team, not a run of the mill league game.

One odd dynamic is that australia and england have plenty that cheer for india sri lanka and pakistan in cricket but it doesnt get the same reaction

I think the difference is the perception that football should be doing better so we look for what must be holding us back

The Swans are followed by mainly Eastern suburbs socialites and corporates, if you will. Not many working class people from outside a five mile radius of Sydney go to these games.
Sure mate, I dont doubt it, but they still go every other week though.... Isnt Sydney FC in a similar position?
