A league final

Currently in Paris:

Two people dead.
20 year old female, and a 17 year old stabbed to death
200+ injured
250+ cars torched
600 arrested.

this is after PSG winning the Champions League.

Then again, we all know who these people are and what demographic they come from and they have nothing to do with football.

Ladder, and trophy, says otherwise.
In terms of efficacy, yes, Auck were champs.

What they did well.

* Terrific defensive discipline and shape for sustained periods when the other team had the ball. They were a very good team unit in Ball Possession Opposition.

* Dominated aerial duels at set pieces, scoring 19 goals or so from stoppages. Fair play to Auck!

* They probably dominated 1v1 physical duels, being a big strong side.

* Pacy and effective on flanks in counter attacks.

* Terrific mental strength and contested every ball for the team cause.

What I would prefer:

* The brilliant Vic goal in Auckland, where someone passed to centrally based Arzani from right.
Dan A faked, sent a defender wrong way and passed to Jordi V in a little space.
JV played a perfect defence splitting diagonal pass for Bruno F to receive and swivel on his first touch, and score with his second! Exquisite football!

* Western, City and Vic played some lovely passing sequences from defence to attack with deck football. Many angled passes in triangles and diamonds in patient build ups, featuring some quality pass and move sequences, plus some quality dribbling. Nice rhythm changes too.

* Maybe with the possible exception of City, Auck's defensive unit was tighter, but the other teams played more expansive football.

I take my hat off to Corica and Auck for winning the title.

I'd also add the dribbling from Vic's Arzani, Machach and Villupillay; Western's Walatee; and City's Tilio and Atkinson; was pretty good too.

Plus Behich and Auck's Gillion, were pretty decent running with the ball.

My take.

Firstly on the game. I thought City played a physical game that we couldn’t handle. But I think a lot of that was on Kersey who failed to clamp down on it early. He was probably instructed to let the game flow, but that just played into their hands.

I’m not making excuses, the refereeing didn’t cost us the game. We were poor. In hindsight, maybe last week was our GF and we were cooked. Nish not playing was a massive loss. I also think Diles made a mistake starting Bruno over Vergos. We needed his energy when we were chasing the game.

As for the feeling of losing another GF and losing to City in particular. Honestly, I feel nothing.

10 years ago, the thought of losing a GF to City (or Heart) would have been unthinkable. Losing to CCM last year feels worse because I made the trek north and travelling home after losing a GF (when we were minutes away from winning) sucks balls.

But standing in the terrace with your mates in a full AAMI Park is what football is all about and I hope we have many more of those types of days going forward.

As for the media stuff and the OTT police presence, I don’t particularly wanna dwell too much on it except to say that I really, really want the APL and Melbourne Victory to come out and publicly back the fans over these hostile dogs.

They famously threw us fans under the bus after pitch invasion incident. If they wanna fix the massive issue of dwindling AL crowds in Melbourne, this would be a great time to offer us an olive branch. But I won’t be holding my breath.
I thought that KBos was particularly targeted for physical treatment. This broke any forward drive that he normally provides.
BY halfway through the first half the MVC players were starting to show signs of fatigue. Just little things.
I wonder who JBos was cheering for? His former team or his little brother's team?

The game at Marvel would have sold out, what would the attendance have been at the MCG?

If there was ever an opportunity to test the waters, this would have been it, sold out MCG would have been insane.
