A-League Men 24/25 - Round 8

As much as i hate time wasting, Roar did what they had to do and almost stole it at the end so i give them credit for that, otherwise that was a woefully hard 2nd half of football to watch.
Interesting stat that it was WSW that had the late yellow cards which suggests that it were them on the back foot.

Well we see it when australia plays middle Eastern teams

We aren't used to those breaks in rhthym and it seems weaker teams can get on top that way

If we had p and r we would see a couple of teams play like that every year

Games like tonight show why the league needs promotion and relegation, especially the later because how could teams find a way to motivate themselves when your always losing and have no consequence for it.
It’s getting to the point where it just makes the product on the field worse without it.

I feel for Perth’s and Brisbane’s fans, so hard to watch a team when you haven’t won a game and haven’t close to winning one let’s be honest, both are easily the worst teams in the league.

At Brisbane have got some interesting young players and look to play good football when they can, however I’m not a fan of time wasting but when you have the pressure to perform like pro/rel then it’s understandable for slowing the game but not when you do it when have no consequences on the table then it’s baffling.
It looks like Perth are not trying to play which is alarming in itself.

Sydney and WSW continue their inconsistent ways, the former have been terrible defensively and haven’t improved on that at all this season and WSW continue to find ways to be poor and more perplexing when Mata is the bench.

At least the Nix vs the Bulls was a good competitive game, a well taken goal for the Bulls to get the three points for them.

The Sydney WU game was great. Only watched bits but its probably one fo the only games other than an MV one I've seen. Great end to end stuff

Very poor play from City to concede the second equaliser. Firstly with a sloppy unnecessary foul by Atkinson on the edge of the area, followed by Beach only setting up a 2 man wall when in that area of the pitch 3 is definitely needed (the 2 man wall gave the ball striker too much of the goal to aim for, and the shot trajectory was where a third man in the well would have been) then Beach allowing the shot, although well struck, to slip through his hands.

Talay playing with no midfield and Sydney conceding 4 goals. Problem is Sydney don't have any defensive midfielders to stop the goal leakage. Scoring 3 is fine but no one is winning a football match is you're conceding more. Talay in a bit of a spot moving forward I suspect.

Finished watching the PG vs NJ game. Right now I cannot think of two more uncompetitive sides than PG and BR since North Queensland and GC folded.
Watching PG, I could not see any player in the starting line up being able to walk into the starting line up of any other team (BR excepted). A few would not even get a contract elsewhere. The only bright spot is Khoa Ngo who may be able to get a contract elsewhere - indeed he should as he is not going to learn anything at PG.
I had high hopes for David Zrillic as a coach but I think that he is better off as a strategist/analyst rather than as a coach.

It could be westerns quality at resisting a press, but they seemed easy to play through. That really exposed their back line

I disagree. It needs (a) proper owners who actually care about the performance of their clubs (both on and off field). How some of the clubs are being run is a disgrace (b) proper coverage in key markets. Removing professional teams from Brisbane, Perth, Newcastle or Central Coast will provide no benefit to the game and (c) the return to a centralised governance model, with a proper FA board of those with influence in the corporate and media world (i.e. when Lowy ran it professionally and not the current APL) (d) the removal of Federations and their control over the FA.
