A-League Men 24/25 - Round 8

I think the Sydney press wasn't there at all. We were watching on the sideline and noted that Western counter attacking from the back took 4-5 passes to completely get through the Sydney front/middle men and be at the Sydney 18 yard box with ease.
Yep it looks a bit uncoordinated at times I feel if they are not position to press or win it and it leaves them with alot of space in behind, it would not surprise me if they go to a more pragmatic style against Adelaide.

When one sees quality players like Piscopo and Talbot, plus the young player whose name begins with S for City, on the bench for other clubs, and one sees Glory struggling, this trio are far too good to not be playing regular football. If only they could play for Perth?
Suleimani you are thinking of.
Those players should certainly be getting more time but if they went to PG, will that plateau, regress or advance their talents? That is what I am struggling with. Right now why would anyone go to PG? Is it the off-field club, is it the coaching or is it something else alltogether?

Didn't Zdrillic turn up to SFC after coaching with Rangnick in Europe, and improve their off the ball Pressing game in Ball Possession Opposition ?

A few talented AL reserves ATM are Zane Schreiber, Talbot, Piscopo, Joel King, Kane Vidmar, and Atalee. If these guys were at PG, I'm sure they would provide enough decent service for Taggart to start banging them in again.

Welcome to the forum too, WAIW.

Playing with no No.6 (Sena was on the bench though) looked to be a bad idea given how many times Western would attack Sydney's back 4 with ease, they also played through their press well so Sydney have issues they need to address if they want to play a high pressing game.

Thought Segecic played very well on the ball, but he roamed all over the pitch as a number 6 or DM,, meaning he probably wasn't in the right position defensively in the Defensive Transitions.

Hence, Western U were able to play through the midfield more easily in their Attacking Transitions.

First good look at AU this season for the first 45 mins.

They have a good blend of experience and talented young players. They are playing some good football. Didn't see the final result.

Maraugis has improved for CCM.

Archie Goodwin scored a brilliant strikers' goal. He is good on the ball too.

Interesting?

Anyways Auckland look very well coached will be hard to defeat

Superb Squeezing and Full Pressing from Auckland in the second half.

It forced City to constantly receive without the required body shape to play forwards. Instead City players had to keep bounce passing backwards. it was different in the first half though. City were on top.

MCG, who is the 19 - 20 mop-haired City midfielder who I think came off the bench, and has played as a starter a few times? He is a talent.

zane schreiber no idea why he isn't starting

He has started but is competing against Jimmy Jeggo who is preferred by Vidmar. I would not start Jeggo ahead of Schreiber.

Jeggo has the experience and positional game sense, but Schreiber, like so many of the Under 23s and younger, is a vastly superior technician.

it seems incredible not long ago that Jeggo was a Socceroo. He has been overtaken by so many midfielders since.

I was hoping to see more of Quintal for SFC. I've seen comments on here lauding his technical qualities.

When Quintal came on to replace Segecic, I didn't take enough notice of him. It took me some time to realise he was number 20 - someone massaged me off forum - thanks! Then when I knew Quintal was, he barely touched the ball until the end of the game!

Perth are terrible, no player seems to know the triggers for the press, its a disorganised rabble that leaves a very poor defence exposed. The consistent fitness excuses and weekly promises of player resets don't inspire any confidence.

Recruitment has been beyond terrible, the only surprise is that it took to round 8 to push Canga to the airport. I've seen better centre backs playing socials.

Their entire back line can be replaced by socials.
