A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 16

Having been keeping an eye on Arzani since he was at MC, his needless step overs and dribbles have been reduced. He does pass the ball more and is able to release players, specially Machach. His over-confidence is an issue but not as much as 6 years ago. He is able to draw players and the release the ball. Do I think he will continue to improve? Maybe. His biggest problem is between his ears.
His passing and moving is really good.

I think he is more judicious about when to dribble now.

A bit surprised about the Popa rocket. Maybe Popa is fed up of journos and members of the public asking him why Arzani hasn't been selected by him?

Arzani doesn't use step-overs much. He prefers to use body swerves, la Croquetas and Elastics. Also, changes of pace.

And, he beats a lot of opponents using them - quite often.
Yep yep as evidenced by the solitary goal in 13 matches this season.

Last year was no better 4 goals in 31 matches.

Unacceptable for an attacker.

Arzani's club form this season has been the best of his career. With a better striker, he may have had 7 or 8 assists. His tracking back has been better too. People are reading too much into Popa's comments. He was referring to Arzani's performances in one national team camp. Clearly, he doesn't think his club form has been bad - otherwise he wouldn't have selected him for the national team in the first place.

Interesting game against AU.

Auckland's off the ball game is impressive with their disciplined Squeezing and Full Pressing game.

However, their players lack technique - overall. They aren't going to get much better.

AU played some beautiful football trying to get out of their half, initially struggling to create shots on goal. AU are proactive. Auckland are reactive. AU, with so many young players, are only going to get better.

Also, being older and bigger, Auckland won a lot of the 1v1s involving body on body contact - I don't have stats to support this though.
I think Adelaide United have got nice patterns of play compared to Auckland who rely on the individual quality of their players, I thought it was an interesting game to watch.

However Auckland did press high and at times caused turnovers and lead to their best chances and Adelaide when they did play through the press they also created good chances too.

Unless something changes think both teams will be competing for the title towards the end of the season.

However I’ve been disappointed with WSW yesterday, they play too reactive even for a home team and once you can control the counter they got not much in possession unless Mata gets influential.

However like Auckland they also got quality individuals in the final third to hurt almost any team in the league but I’ve been disappointed with them this season.

The Mariners 2nd goal was quality football, they might not be as good as last season but they got promise they can get back to the top 6 in the future with play like that.
