Dear oh dear that was an abysmal game. WSW happy to sit on a one goal lead, and BR showing absolutely no urgency or heart in trying to get a result.
Roar are absolutely incapable of getting the ball into zone 14 as part of their attack. Everything goes wide, and the wide players, especially Halloran, are then incapable of getting a decent ball across.
My take exactly.
I am pretty sure Zadkovich tries to defend a 0-1 loss. There is no movement or urgency to create anything and the number of triangles we did between our backline and our defensive mids was mindboggling. Wanderers were totally happy to have two forwards pinning our 5 defenders back for many loooong minutes.
I do not like us playing a back three and especially not with one of them being Zabala and another being Bility. Zabala was never able to put pressure on the player receiving the ball or running with it but to his genuine credit he got back in time to put pressure on the final pass most times. Bringing the ball out by foot again we did our absolute best to fuck it up - either by passing directly to a Wanderers forward or passing along a clearly contested line that saw the ball intercepted. Time and again.
There was nothing of the first hour of our Sydney game on display - we went straight to the last half hour of dead ball play.
Wanderers goal was not an unbeatable play in my eyes - just crap defending taken advantage of. Better team did win but it is an indication of how poor Wanderers are playing at the moment with their squad that they took the 0-1 result home with them.
Have to say, every time a Wanderers player looked up there was an attacking play option available. It is a really great thing to see and a shame it is that filthy pack of bastards doing it so well

.
I was a little surprised VAR did not ask the ref to check the arm over the shoulder in the opening minutes (on Jelacic I think). Not saying it was a definite penalty but it was clearly worth a look.
Brazete is a lively chap and continues to impress me with his cameos. His full pace effort tracking back to stop an attack up the wing showed his work ethic and pride in the shirt.
Hore was scheming away but we are really bad at getting a dangerous ball in - especially when we go back to playing the ball out every time and letting our opposition get set.
Usual beef with Halloran. All the dirty looks and gesturing we get from him when people don't play the ball he is expecting. When he did get the ball he did not try and outpace his opposing fullback once. Just a very lazy looking performance again.
Klein and Burke-Gilroy put in another good shift. A few turnovers more than usual from my perspective but that is to be expected when we are being outnumbered and controlled through the middle then pressed hard up the wings.
First game I have seen Herrington look so shaky. You could see him actually thinking through his actions with the ball at his feet as the game wore on. It slowed him down and made him vulnerable where he really isn't. There is a danger of him getting burned so young instead of rolling with the blows, learning from mistakes and developing into his potential.
Attending any Roar game is better than attending no games and a 6i83 crowd was not a bad turnout for our current form. The hard plastic seats became harder as the game went on though...
One small good thing - Milanovic strutting in front of the Den with his hand cupped to his ear then having the goal disallowed was a pleasant moment.
My general impression stands that players in their 'big games' like 150th, 200th and the like rarely take the win. Sorry to see you go Scotty. 300 and out.
