A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 17

Watched the Perth Glory v Melb Vic game.

I thought the standard was atrocious compared to most current AL games, in terms of style. Vic in particular lost the ball very quickly when they had the ball, compared to most games in the last few seasons.

It was like a throwback to old AL games a decade or more ago. A lot of play was in the transitions, defensive and attacking, or contested ball phase of play. Some watching it might have loved it with all the physical battles and 1v1s body on body duels. There was a lot of 'action', but poor ball retention.

Good to see Perth competitive and the fact they were able to break up Vic play so easily, with a decent Pressing and intensive Squeezing game plan. However, FFA Tech Dept 12 years ago wanted to digress from this style of play of so much play in the transitions.

There was also more distance between the lines, and end to end naive football, that concerned Pim so much. I stopped watching it at the 65 min mark.

Watching the CCM v Jets derby. Just finished watching the first half.

Really blown out with the Jets' passing game in the build ups from the back of the pitch to the front! This is a really young team - devoid of almost any experienced players aged 27 and over to organise the team.

There were a lot of really good passing sequences in the Jets' build ups from the back of the pitch to the front. They just lack clinical finishing in the pen box and the final ball. Plus they make positioning and organisational defensive mistakes at the back, despite CB Mark Natta discernibly improving since a month or two ago when I last saw him.

Conversely, whilst CCM were playing rubbish earlier in the season when they lost many good players, and we needed them to be decent in the Asian Champ League, they are getting better stylistically.

Eames and Steele show great promise in midfield. CCM didn't have all the triangles and diamonds on show like Jets, but their build ups are more patient than all the accelerated attacks that were so prevalent with them.

Not sure Sains is doing that well individually? He is some way off his best in the years 2015/6 when he played a lot of club football. He has played little club football since when one looks at his CV. Sains probably was good influence on organisation of CCM team defensive shape, but earlier on he missed a few challenges.

Great credit to Rob Stanton coaching a young Newcastle team to play so well with the ball.

How the frick is that Brazilian import keeping Piscopo and Arzani out of the starting lineup? So shit!
I'm gobsmacked too, particularly with Arzani.

However, Arzani's goal output has been atrocious. Notwithstanding, he has put that many superb balls into the box, which are assists to inaccurate shots from his profligate teammates - who should have converted.

After Popa getting stuck into Arzani about his attitude on the training ground, it has to be this issue. Arzani is one of the most skilful players Australia has ever had - bar almost nobody! And he is winning many hard balls, tracking back and making some great blocks and intercepts.

Santos has converted goals though. In short supply at Vic this season.

1--1 plenty of entertainment so far. Quite handy for Macarthur they can replace Drew with a former socceroo.

Kuol remains on Tyneside

Newcastle United have not received any suitable loan offers from Australia for Garang Kuol. As things stand, he will stay on Tyneside and try to prove his worth in the second string. The Magpies are sympathetic to his situation but don't want to risk another bad loan move.

Previous stints with Hearts and Volendam have not worked out.

He might not be as good as you all think he is. Three different teams since the Mariners, and he is not getting a regular game.

Depends on how good we think he is?

Getting as much game time in Europe as he did with volendam and hearts is well above average for an aussie his age. So still can be a handy prospect for us

need a vpn for poland if you are out of the country. Otherwise just stick on tenplay
I'm in poland myself at present. Admittedly not been watching a league, but express vpn has been great has been great for every thing else we wanted. If Sydney doesn't work switch to Melbourne.

Left at a similar age to Irankunda. A goal involvement (goal or assist) every 58 minutes in the ALM. Irankunda a goal involvement every 103 minutes in the ALM. Still only 20. He will do fine. Newcastle have admitted they have made mistakes in the loan deals.

In hindsight he probably could have stayed another season in a setup he was familiar with to strengthen and refine what he was bringing to games.

It is the damning nature of our game. Move while you are hot property or risk sliding and missing that overseas window - against staying in our league and proving/improving yourself to be a more marketable commodity. Name v potential sort of tightrope.

Irankunda got to play 90 minutes, Kuol never did. Irankunda is a solid unit, Kuol is a much lighter. Irankunda has a lower centre of gravity than Kuol and can maintain his balance. Kuol left too early.
