A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 17

Macarthur signs a Tunisian int'l with experience in France top flight.
The French tend to do well in the AL.

Whereas some of the Spanish players find the AL too physical, in body on body contact, the French league is the most rugged in body on body contact in the UEFA Big Five. Plus the French players are tactically astute.

Irankunda got to play 90 minutes, Kuol never did. Irankunda is a solid unit, Kuol is a much lighter. Irankunda has a lower centre of gravity than Kuol and can maintain his balance. Kuol left too early.
It seems that way.

What a shame. Garang Kuol was a joy to watch.

I agree that Kuol left too early and he should have continued here until he was playing full games on a regular basis. His loan deals have offered nothing and Newcastle have admitted they got them wrong.

However, his record here was better than Irankunda. In Australia no-one could contain him. Irankunda was shown to struggle against a good defender (Farrell) to the point of frustration (I'm sure there are better defenders he will come up against OS so it will be intereeting to see how he responds). Kuol needs an injury free run of continuous games.

The fact that Kuol played for a regional team that had not yet had the success of the last couple of years and not a capital city with the full glare of the state's media upon him like Irankunda probably left many wondering 'Garang who?'

Irankunda's problem is his temper. Farrell often pulled his shirt and the refs allowed it, continually fouled with no protection from the refs and little assistance from his team mates - that is how he got a red card. One of my favourite moments was when David Williams then at Hearts, planted the whole boot on a dirty WSW player and got away with it. After that WSW went into a shell. That is what should have happened to Farrell.

But you are right, if he had been developed correctly he would have stayed in Oz until he got 90 minutes under his belt on a regular basis. It is a pity that I am writing in the past tense.

Isaias, Lopez and Miranda say hi.

Basically we are agreeing. My only differing is that Irankunda often fouls (including pulling shirts against defenders). Farrell was strong enough and quick enough not to be beaten by him regularly. Irankunda is a physical player, it enables a lot of what he does. But he does not like it when people return serve. He should not get protection from the ref unless the ref is going to make sanctions both ways.

Don't get me wrong - if both players are being physical (and not dirty) I am happy for the ref to let it go. In fact their tussles where some of the best I have seen in the A League. But the ref should not only sanction defenders.

Edinburgh is a capital city.
