A-League Mens 24/25 - Round 25

That was absolutely demoralising.

Zadkovich made several changes again to the line up and included players that I don't think are near best in spot (Berenguer, Bility, and Zabala in the fullback role). We played like a social football park mob again totally lacking in cohesion and apologies to social football park mobs but we were wayward with our passing on top of that.

Either we have so many injuries that these were the only fit players or Zadkovich has NFI.

Burke-Gilroy had about the worst game I can remember - hanging well back out wide behind the other defenders to make sure that one of the early goals was not even close to offside play when the ball went into the middle of the pitch behind the centrebacks. For one of their later goals he was heading up to halfway with an opponent behind him and free to run onto a well delivered pass in the acres of space behind him.

Zabala once again too slow off the mark to stop good play and getting caught both behind and the wrong side of his opponent running into the box unhindered.

Berenguer added bugger all that anyone else could add and I really struggled to even see him on the ground most of the time with so little impact.

We were lucky to go up a goal on the half hour with a very well taken shot at distance, and perhaps unlucky not to get another with a struck post.

That said, Macarthur played the first half showing none of the skill that their players are capable of. So many bumbling opportunities and misplaced passes by players you can normally depend on.

Their goal on half time was coming - with our players getting lazy in their defending - letting Macarthur players run free to create and score.

Second half and Macarthur got their act together. Playing the way they should have been all game. Our players got lazier and lazier and started playing dirty instead of playing better. Macarthur ripped us several new ones.

Fantastic vision and execution to set opportunities up and skilful finishing to convert the opportunities.

I think, on our form tonight, that playing in the finals might not be an option for us.

It was a huge step backwards in how we have been developing and the fact Zadkovich made so many changes instead of using players that had been working better together says once again he is struggling as a manager and hoping for a miracle combination.

Really disappointing to play so badly regardless of the score - we weren't in the game the first 30 minutes or anytime in the second half - so 15 minutes of possibly decent play in total.

Hore looked to be playing as an injured sub - you could see him wave away someone asking him to take a corner soon after he came on - pointing at his leg to remind them he could not kick with that leg. It was stupidity if we did play him injured when he injured it further and had to come off after a few minutes. It is not as though our season depended on winning that game but if it rules him out for the rest of the games it is such a poor choice.

Klein was still useful and Brazete continues to be lively and dangerous when he comes on. I prefer Ludwig to Bility in centreback so having Ludwig on the bench and using him as a substitute makes no sense. He could start and be substituted by Bility later if required.

We need something significant to make our defensive side resilient and consistently good - an experienced leader, a stable group...something...?

Credit to Macarthur in the second half.

Well short of 'continuing to improve' by us.

Look Roar have to go, They bring nothing to the table and are a drag on the ALM. I don't know what's worse, The over sized venue? The 2k crowds? The players with no heart? Or the coach? maybe its everything i just mentioned. Football in QLD is just poison and the sooner we fk them off the better. Bring in Sth Melb or Christchurch or a Canberra team as I'm over these pathetic losers getting TV money when they have no ambition nore want any. #ROAROUT!

Bring in a new gaffer to sort out the team and New owners and she'll be right

2 teams getting around 0.5 points per game....this seems like the weakest bottom 2 I can remember?

Roar have to make changes. That's as far as I can agree with you.

If you watched the coverage tonight they were talking about part Indonesian owned Oxfordshire sounding interested in investing in the club. That in itself may benothing but it might indicate an increase in investment in players and manager.

We bring a lot of youth to the table, and most seasons we display some quality players - as can be seen by the number of ex-Roar players out there. We have had Waddingham, Klein, Burke-Gilroy, Brazete and Herrington (who apparently had an MSL team contingent at the game tonight looking at him) this season alone. All of them worth watching.

We can't hold on to them because of money, so we continue to struggle - but the only thing we don't do is provide entertaining football week in week out. How is that a drag on the league? Are you upset that your team beats my team these days?

We have plenty of players who play with heart and pride - but not necessarily with professional levels of cohesion.

I suggest that anyone open minded would think that changing owners or their commitment, and replacing an ineffective manager would make more sense than "clubs got to go".

Your bitterness seems both personal and out of balance - especially when you know this club has had some very great seasons and brought plenty to the table over time. On those grounds, I am unaffected and unswayed by your hatred other than it being a point for discussion.

I agree - but I don't think rational solutions are what NoMates is looking for.
Remember when the last time Roar had a home final at Dolphine stadium and only 7k turned up>? ffs 7k!! Pathetic. season after season Bris Roar are woeful. Look at the Nix and CCM sure they had a few bad seasons not as many as Roar but they have done well and produce way better youth players then Bris Roar could dream of. No excuses Roar is a dead beat club in a dead beat state. QLD is poison when it comes to pro football. Gold coast was a joke so was Nth QLD Fury. The club needs to get its act together or just fk off for good. They are a drag on the ALM no matter how much u want to polish them in light. And the sad thing is my paramount subscription is funding this club, rather see it go to a new club like Canberra or Christchurch hell even Sth Melb.

If you really paid attention you would find that the cost cutting attempt at Dolphin was recognised by the club as a failure and they moved back to Brisbane. The move to Dolphin itself was an attempt to avoid the 17k crowds we needed at Suncorp to just break even thanks to the arrangement we were forced into by Stadiums Queensland (not Queensland Football).

We gave Ange a break and look at the team he put together. That was the Club before the current owners but still the Club that did that.

We had Robbie Fowler come in with the freedom and support to rebuild the team how he wanted and produced a very resilient defence and promising attacking play that continued to improve with him in charge despite it not being the entertaining football we wanted to see. COVID and whatever went on in the background saw him leave.

We had Ross Aloisi for a pre-season plus a few games a season ago and we were looking good - until he paid us back for sacking his brother. He was replaced by Ben Cahn - a genuine up and coming quality coach who left because of his illness.

Zadkovich has been retained far beyond what professional football considers normal. But he does come on the back of a number of decent coaching attempts so we are really talking one full season in a row currently that the owners have kept a manager who was not producing results.

So who allows the owner of a team to make a long list of poor management decisions over a number of years but still retain their licence? It must be the state of Queensland or the club itself <cough>.

Qld football clubs have had fantastic players brought through and into the league. Gold Coast was owned/managed by a joker but they were far from a joke. North Queensland Fury had a small but passionate support base and they also brought some great players into the league. Just google the list of players for all three clubs that have been given chances in the league over the years - losers like Talay and Barbarouses might ring a bell let alone the many, many league greats that have been paid to play by Queensland football clubs. But by all means, bag out the state in its entirety - apart from sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what has Queensland ever given the league?

If you choose to look at just the bad side of things that's your call but it is too narrow a viewpoint.

Someone from Queensland or from Queensland Football has obviously pissed in your Bovril at some point, or you have decided that Qld Football is the cause of whatever bad stuff you have seen - your responses are either trolling (which I did not think but "deadbeat club in a deadbeat state" tells me otherwise) or just so extreme they must be coming from somewhere I don't know. Again, that's your call and your right - but the list of grievances you have basically posted twice is hardly worth the eternal damnation of a fine state and a club with a great aleague history that has seen crappy management over several seasons.

In what world do you throw out a club instead of the owners/manager when things go bad?

Can't go close to even seeing the basis for your view point so I will find it hard to continue discussion with you without more perspective on the real source of your club and state hatred.

The only clubs that are a drag on the ALM are Auckland and Phoenix sucking off the teet of Australian professional football. If any clubs should go its those two. If football is going gangbusters in NZ then they can start their own league and stop milking us and taking spots that could be filled by our professional footballers, NPL clubs and kids.

In nearly 20 years Phoenix have had one decent season and brought us nothing of note. Auckland have hype now, but they were handed a leg up from the start. They too will fall in a heap within the next few years.

Until someone or some group of people put their hands in their pockets and fund a team or teams in Aus - which hasn’t happened - I’m happy for Wellington and Auckland to be in the A-League. Christchurch too. And in an ideal world, P & R is introduced in future, so Wellington’s mediocrity would mean they get relegated.

Christchurch... FFS

Robbie Slater - who was a good player but is a bit of a tool as a pundit - has said that Christchurch is looking more likely than Canberra………

There are plenty of teams that want to be in the a-league. They could fund it too.

What is the limit for NZ teams? 3, 5, 6, 7, 10?

They do zero for football in this country and never have. They can do their thing, we should do ours. We might as well have clubs from vanuatu.

Where did he say this? The Christchurch owner said they're going to give A-League a miss and play OFC instead. Maybe Slater means Canberra is no chance as Christchurch isn't even interested anymore?

The NZ teams have raised the league standard for the past two seasons.
They've given the league finances to survive.
If anything, they're showing up how shit the Australian clubs are run.
Their fans are arguably the best spirited.
And I think three NZ clubs would be the limit.

Hard disagree.

They’ve been around 6 months.

Auckland will be just like phoenix in 2 years.

They have had the dream start handed to them on a platter.

Let’s see how they are after the sugar hit.

And phoenix football is absolute bog standard basic. IMO phoenix haven’t improved anything about the league full stop. On the pitch, off the pitch.

Their fans are good I get that - both teams. As football clubs they just should not be here.

Interesting to me at least is that Glory and Roar both play the same 3 teams (WU, Reds, Nix) in the last few games of the season.

Perfect to really compare apples with apples this season for the wooden spoon. Neither team has unmatched 'easy' games to swing it their way (I do not consider any team to be an easy game for us).

Roar play Mariners and Melbourne City, where Glory play Auckland to make up the rest of matches.

Oh, the value of a single point.
