I couldn't remember any at all.
2010 group. Australia won 3:0. Amini, Bulut, Antonis. 6th of October.

Nowadays we have YouTube and 10 Play but back then it was maybe on Fox or SBS. I remember the Olyroo failures often being on some steam channel but only since around 2018 have regular streams and tournament coverage seemingly kicked on.

Ah yeah, you're right. We beat them 3-2 in group stage in 2023 U20 Asian Cup.
Oh that's more recent than the one I posted. I remember that now.

The Kuol heel goal was that U23 tournament in between Olympic qualification versions. That was against Iraq though. We've had that many since 2018 with decent coverage that they start to blend a bit. Qualifying tournaments, tournaments proper and then camps and Toulon.

We would have preferred Iran as we never beat Japan at any level but at least we have qualified for the World Cup which was the main purpose in the first place.

It feels like 2006 where it was such joy to get to the world cup that every game feels like a bonus

Bring on Japan. Both sides presumably have players away with clubs, so hard to gauge from the match how much the gap has closed or widened

Wow!

Although this is a very young age for results, was this a result a product of more clinical finishing - or - dominance in possession and territory?

Saudi are usually an Asian powerhouse at any age level.
The full replay is still available in the thread if u dig

Look at Jovanovic dropping to avoid being hit by the shot for the 3rd goal. Ball was way high but just that extra focus to maximise the chance.

It feels so good after falling so close on penalties last time.

AS someone else said, great technique for the first Iraq goal!

Terrible 1v1 defending by the Socceroo CB who was dribbled around for the Iraq second goal. Was that Esposito? Leonard would be better, or Matthews.

Worried me that the first 2 Socceroo goals came from set pieces and the third came from a defensive mistake - not really proactive goals from build up play where Iraq didn't touch the ball.

Thrilled we are going to the U20 World Cup though. Hope some the pompous UEFA clubs don't play funny buggers releasing players. Attending a World Cup at any age is far more memorable than playing a couple of home and away club games.

Matthews is unavailable being born 2004 but yes it wasn't expositos finest moment and made the decision to leave leonard at home questionable

The second goal was a bit proactive though? There were a few passes in and around the box before the goal

Esposito will learn from it. I'm not convinced Leonard would or should have started over Esposito or Kikianis.

Yeah I think esposito just needs game time to improve at this age
He has pretty good 1v1 and last ditch defending at times in this tournament and great at distribution
