Sofa score has been collecting stats on game
The stats indicate that our finishing got us home

Xg 1.45 each showing chances were roughly even. There were 4 australian big chances to Iraq's 3 where a big chance I'm taking to be when the xg is over 0.15

653 passes completed indicating a reasonably fast and technical game. Iraq had 56 percent possession and better territory with 35 percent in our defensive third to 23 percent in iraqs.

In the high skill areas (take ons, long balls, through balls, touches in penalty area) Iraq comes out strong

StatIraqAustralia
Touches in penalty area1912
Accurate through balls21
Accurate long passes 4515
Successful take ons149

Where we dominated were in duels, clearances and intercepts. Intercepts we led 14 yo 4, clearances we led 17 to 11 and we won 40 percent of duels to their 33 percent with the rest ambiguous

So we still need to improve our skills, but for once the most important skill is better than our opponents (scoring goals)

I am not convinced by Esposito. Needs to show more and how was he chosen captain?

Anyway, I do enjoy teh rivalry against Japan.
He had a very very bad moment, but it's the only bad moment I recall and his long passes are very accurate. Also quite tidy on the ball

I don't know much about him except on here he's touted as a jewel in the crown. Long career ahead but I just hope it's not another Dylan Ryan Or Tass.

those born 2005 need game time soon
A lesser talented player might surpass a more talented player if they get game time
