Australian politics.

The Australia Institute report is slightly misleading. Norway has 5 million people. Norway's reserves per person are 952 barrels, whereas Australia's barrels per person are 158. The UK, often bizarrely compared to Norway, has a paltry 63 barrels per person. To their credit, Norway understood the power of compounding and invested wisely, but they had far more scope to do so.

On the Canada nuclear thing and subsidies, Canada indeed subsidises its energy sector, as does Australia to an even greater extent. The difference is that Australia still has far higher energy bills.
good 5th post made here Stompy.

Why do all the 'fuck the deep state' 'drain the swamp' types simp so much for oil, gas and corporations - they all seem to fall into line with the ruling class/governments and go against the interests of the people?

I wonder if increasing royalties to pay for stuff like this meets the criteria of approved spending.

haha would for me, we keep selling ourselves out, not just minerals our bloody land !
Raise the royalties and Export pricing, there will always be a buyer, replace volume for less and higher returns :)

All of the crying about housing prices will go away once the biggest wealth transfer in history happens upon the death of the boomers.

That's going to be a long time happening as the most accepted definition of a baby boomer is someone born between 1946 and 1964.Therefore the oldest ones are 78 and the youngest 60.The average expectancy for women in Australia is 85.3 and for men 81.2 so a lot of the oldest boomers are going to be around for quite a few years and the youngest ones for a very long time.It will be a very gradual transfer of wealth apart from a succession of pandemics occurring

common misconception with life expectancy is that it's actually a backwards looking measure. So those alive now may or may not reach those ages.

Yep. My dad didn't have super but did buy some shares. (Nowhere near enough though. ) My mum lives on a pension. There's plenty around like her.

Most of her widowed friends are eking out and existence.
