Australian politics.

The government is working on some sort of digital ID that confirms who you are without sending data I've read.

One off codes? I can't remember the exact details. I'll try and find it.

this is another example of the media weaponising children to push an agenda

you can always find examples in isolation to make a case, but it is not the full picture

this won't end by forcing every person in Australia to submit to biometric identification to use social media

Does the human side of you not acknowledged that this 12 year old girl probably SHOULDNT have been exposed to social media and the bullying that it enabled her to endure????

In order to verify who online is under 16, it requires 100% of the population to verify their age -- and that cannot be done apart from verifying identity, i.e. no chance of anonymity, if there ever was.

Imagine all the multis on this website being outed.

Imagine realising all the idiotic statements on this forum were actually made by under-age kiddies. 😲

You dont have a birth certificate, medicare card, drivers license or a bank account even?

Access to "adult" privileges/harms based on identification has been the norm in our society for hundreds of years... You're 100% right about the idiotic statements though.

emotional response based on a single case and taking a blanket approach as a response

legislation should not be taken on emotion

Agreed, but it is one of quite literally hundreds of similar stories reported and possibly thousands unreported.... Now if you chose NOT to believe them fair enough but this worries me and if social media being regulated means that the "revolutionaries" need to go back to meeting in damp basements and printing pamphlets then so be it.....

Speaking of printing pamphlets. Literally, not 20 minutes ago, checked the mailbox and there was so covid/vaccine stuff on a piece of paper with an entreaty to turn up to the next council meeting and, by way of spreading the word, photograph said piece of paper and pass it on.

The best bit? A link to a covid/vaccine mrna video from none of than js's favourite site 'rumble.com'.

Hahahahaha. If johnny boy's moved into my neighbourhood I might have to pack up and leave.

this wont solve the problem... the social media/ internet genie is out of the bottle there's no going back. the world needs to adapt, parents need to parent

not even China has resorted to this

Australia the only country in the world dumb enough to go down this path

OK, so what WILL solve the problem then? Happy to hear alternatives.

Bullshit about China.

They have their own google, they don't have twitter Instagram or Facebook and a bunch of other stuff.

What are you on about?

they have their own social media wechat and its various offshoots

it isn't banned for under 16s

It's quite concerning how a certain group of grown men are demanding more children be on social media.

its got nothing to do with children

everybody will require to submit a government biometric ID to access social media

but you knew that of course...
