Australian politics.

I might not have posted much on this thread, but I like the notion of at least being civil to right wingers on here.

I've seen right wingers claim that progressives don't like free speech. That progressives won't listen, whilst they are open minded.

I'd like to think that despite finding John Smith's and Lupi's views abhorrent, plus their mates Vo2 Max and Frontliner/Flying Bat's views to be repugnant, that I strongly uphold their right to express those views in a democracy.

For the record, I like that Lupi, and hopefully, John Smith, and Frontliner/Flying Bat (if he can overcome his penchant for bans), keep expressing their rabid views here.

Sociologically, and from a political science perspective, I find them fascinating! It gets me out of my echo chambers.

wtf views do I have that are abhorrent?

If you don't support Labor, you are a "right wing extremist", apparently.
The Liberal Party moderates are being wiped out - at the ballot box and marginalised within their own party. Trent Zimmerman, Dave Sharma ( re-elected as Senator), Bridget Archer, Turnbull, Chris Pyne, Wyatt Roy, all moderate Libs, have been shafted by the Lib Right Wing, have retired or lost seats.

Having said this, Ley and O'Brien are more moderate than Dutton, Morrison, Abbott and their lot. They may well struggle to hold onto power.

ATM I consider my own state Labor Parl Party to be espousing centre right, even right wing policies under new Right faction member and now leader, Dean Winter.

Which ones?

*Supporting open slather salmon farming ( also supported by Fed Labor).

*The AFL stadium. I've campaigned with then Labor Opposition Leader and other Labor MPs on the doors, advocating the stadium is bad, with petitions and car stickers. Now the PLP have backflipped and supported the Lib govt!

* Autonomy of local councils to make decisions over planning issues. This is a Lib govt policy. The Labor MPs are supporting it!

* Ending Native Forest Logging. West Aus and Vic Labor govts have ended NFL. 60% of Labor voters are against NFL - according to Aus Institute.

* Even some MPs are vacillating on privatisation of state assets by the Libs.

* Gaza inaction. There are Labor Friends Of Palestine groups all over Aus. All want Parl Labor Parties to do more to support Gazans.

* The Fed Parl Labor Party being supportive of the Lib AUKUS sub deal. Anathema to most Labor rank and file.

IMO particularly state Labor PLP is out of touch with their rank and file.

Federally, there are more reforms. The union movement has been pleased with Fed Albo govt - parl action on workers' rights - right to switch off, prosecution of wage theft perpetrators, improved rights for casuals, stronger health and safety laws, stronger protection against sexual harassment in the workplace, 10 days domestic violence leave, etc.

It had been inculcated into me from attending so many demos on env /climate on Parl Lawns, that Labor is pretty bad on the env/climate .

However, the Aus Climate Council's scorecard had Libs 0 out of 9 criteria, Labor 7 out of 9 and greens 9 out of 9! Labor's main issue has been approval of new fossil fuel ventures. The Greens have rammed this home, but Labor has done a lot more on renewables.

So Fed Labor has done some good things. Not that many of my environmental and climate comrades agree.

Most vote Green, or increasingly like you, Independent. There is a bit of a dichotomy in the Greens between the Dark Green Bob Brown types - and- Lee Rhiannon, who leads the NSW Watermelon Greens. Watermelon - green on the outside and red in the middle.

Go back to what you have elucidated as important election issues for you, Loops.

Some were inherently conservative - and controversial.

In all honesty, they didn't come up on the doors or leafleting in the ACTU Don't Risk Dutton Fed Election campaign.

so you can't come up with anything, that's convenient

I read that box Toxic about salmon farming in Tassie. Pretty disgusting.
Good on you reading it, EZ.

I implored the former Labor Shadow Opposition MP to read Toxic, even offering to lend it to her. She has never taken the offer up.

Moreover, she could only quote one side of the argument - the fish farming industry point of view. She is pretty progressive on most other issues, but must get shouted down in Caucus a lot.

The damage to the environment from all the fish farms is pretty profound with all the fish sewage. One salmon farm is something like the excrement from 10 000 humans. If salmon farming was moved on land, cut back in the sea and farmers were forced to clean up the fish sewage, it could be win/win.

If you revisit one of your previous posts, you delineated what issues you thought were topical in the election.

Some of those were highly controversial - and hard right ideology.

hurty truthful words are verboten in this place, but you can lie as much as you want
No lies were made. I noticed you posted relentlessly on Mother's Day, attacking other members.

Clearly, this comes from a place of insecurity.

Therefore, I tell the truth.

I made one post on mother's day, you seem to be estranged from the truth.

"attacking other members" :ROFLMAO:

Why lie?

Taxing unrealised gains held in super portfolios is idiotic.
