It's been interesting watching all this go down over the past few months particularly related to trade and tariffs.
Putting aside Trump for a minute it's a worry that the system that's been put in place can be so easily manipulated to produce an outcome and no measurable change.
I think the average bloke can agree that whilst globalisation has produced shit tons of cheap stuff for consumers it's in reality funneled a fuck ton of wealth up. There's no doubt, in my mind anyway, that the system could be tweaked to produce better, across the board, outcomes.
Trump said I want to do XYZ, because a world power shouldn't be over reliant on a third party, and China just said fuck you. Started selling bonds and stopped buying US debt and the whole thing just folded within a week.
If China can fuck America up so easily imagine how much they could trash our economy. We got a little taster when Scomo said they should have a inquiry into the origins of COVID.
So yeah I'm laughing at how Trump got his arse handed to him but it's definitely a worry about how easily China can wield economic power.
