Where? Quantity? When? How?

Canberra, Tasmania, Gold Coast, Christchurch, Sunshine Coast, Townsville, Geelong, Ipswich, 2nd Brisbane, City relocation to Dandenong, Darwin, SE Asia, OFC, NST... you name it!

Where will the big money want to set up?

I think another team in Brisbane would be good. But it would have to be sustainable, not so much in monetary terms but from a football culture perspective. The stadium issues are well documented. Playing out of the cavernous Suncorp isn't particularly appealing for people who like the normal football-like atmosphere you get in smaller grounds around Australia.

There's a growing younger demographic in SE Queensland who might be looking at following the game actively. I'm sure if there was a club offering a proper football culture environment they could be snared, so to speak...

I remember a really vibrant fan group called the Northern Element who followed the Queensland Roar team but they're long gone from the game. These kind of active fan groups are what makes football special. But they've never been overly embraced by the current A League club in Brisbane.

Used to have seats just in front of the Northern Element. The kids sitting nearby used to get a laugh out of their songs such as “Who ate all the pies?” sung to Charlie Miller or any oversized security guard.
It’s not that groups like that weren’t “overly embraced” - any form of active support was totally discouraged by the league and clubs.
Such body-shaming songs would have you kicked out these days anyway.

The Roar and probably the Suncorp management must have wanted a nice family welcoming environment in order to grow their support base so maybe a culture of European style active support was strongly discouraged....

Worked out well! Not....

That’s been the problem with the entire league. There were a million football fans out there wanting a football experience (60,000 people to a WSW/Sydney regular season game because of the active support experience) and the league thinks the answer is to try to attract AFL fans by selling them a BBL experience … opportunity lost 10 years ago.

The situation with this massively oversized venue in Caxton Street is magnifying the problem in the case of the Briisbane Roar.

Need to at least fill the bottom tier of the stadium to get a really good atmosphere. But selling seats outwards from active support end would be a start. Instead of deliberately selling seats at the away end first to minimise atmosphere.

This sort of banter - reacting to players, security guards, incidents are great.

To my mind each club needs to look at what suits them. an overt young masculine crowd like the Victory or WSW active support would not work at the Mariners which has a completely different demographic and have to look to bring the whole family because of the limited population. Hence why there was what had to by the most polite pitch invasion in world football at last season's GF. That couldn't have happened at WSW or Victory because of the reputation they have. The security/police reaction would have been completely different and would likely have turned very ugly very quickly.

I don’t disagree, but you’d think Victory, WSW and Brisbane would by now have gone: “You know what, we got it wrong back in 2016 (or whenever it was)? Those types of crowds were actually good for us.”
I reckon more parents stopped taking their kids because of lack of atmosphere than stopped taking their kids out of fear of injury. Unless it was fear of a goalkeeper throwing a flare at them.😏

Yep massive over reaction But got to say incl bucket boy incident a huge portion of the RBB behaviour pre and post game was sickening around parramatta.
Thugs.
Sure let’s get them singled out banned out but not effect the innocent supporters.

Fremantle should be the next team to join the A-League and could be named the Fremantle Sailors, reflecting the city's rich naval heritage.

The area also boasts a strong footballing tradition, notably being the birthplace of Vas Kalogeracos. The team could form a close association with the Fremantle Dockers and host their matches at Fremantle Oval, fostering local sports unity and enhancing the area's sports culture.

It’s a no brainer.

I think it will be more "franchisie" if they call themselves the Fremantle Seamen...

If there's gonna be a second brissy team it needs to be based out of redcliffe or ipswich, distinct local identity will be key

The good ol' expansion thread. Crazy that this is still relevant today as it was 15 years ago. I'm still waiting for a Canberra men's team. It's become harder and harder to keep my passion for the ALM without a team and games I can regularly go to.

There has not been any news about the Canberra bid team for a while. Sad, it just does not seem to be happening for them. Though by the sounds of it they may secure additional funding from the ACT Government in line with what the Government said it would put towards a big bash team ($3m a year).

But it's all def a case of I believe it when I see it now.

Unfortunately I don't think we'll secure it. After all, Barr is a hipster prick pandering to his Melbourne overlords.

He 100% seems to like oval sports only
I can 100% guarantee (unless he decides to step down for one of his two favourites to take over), he's just going to continue doing small upgrades to Manuka, while neglecting Bruce Stadium, and then go "Oh, you want a new stadium? I fixed up Manuka, use that" - even though it has all the same issues that he says the proposed City Stadium would have.
