I can't see Canberra coming in now. Seems like they have lost all momentum.

Realisticlaly, there are two options - Another big city, like Auckland, however they are very limited, or being content with a smaller scale organisation such as CCM.

For mine, id 100% be looking at revisiting the Gold Coast. All the mistakes have been made and now they can hopefully do the right things in the region.

'Sokkah' in this country needs the threat of another pro competition to smarten the Apl right up. To hasten things because the game is in a coma at the minute.
Let's face it the oldest teams are not part of Apl so, maybe afew might defect into the Oceania comp, if it actually happens. Might get Canberra among others, in that comp as well.

I can 100% guarantee (unless he decides to step down for one of his two favourites to take over), he's just going to continue doing small upgrades to Manuka, while neglecting Bruce Stadium, and then go "Oh, you want a new stadium? I fixed up Manuka, use that" - even though it has all the same issues that he says the proposed City Stadium would have.
yeah the argument that we can't have a civic stadium because it would be too expensive and hard to find a spot to also have a giant multi-story carpark is silly in my view. The point of having a civic stadium is that people don't drive to and from games but instead enjoy the city more broadly on game day before hand and afterwards. You use public transport to get to and from games and you focus on providing efficient and frequent services on games days to make that a success. They already have park and rides set up in most town centers and along key public transport routes. so really it should all make it easy for people on game days.

Plus this proposal also means the new stadium is directly on the new light rail line. Doesn't need a lot of parks nearby - as you said, the point is to use the public transport, and to rejuvinate (spelling?) city life before and after the game.

Don't need more than 200 or so carspaces at the stadium - there's thousands of parking spaces available within a 5-10 minute walk to Commonwealth Park. People do it all the time for Floriade, NYE, etc.

100%. I think the carpark was just as excuse for changing their preferred location for a new stadium. They saw the Commonwealth investing in upgrading the AIS and went well we could get into that and secure some funding for a new stadium if we put it within that campus.

Tbh if a stadium truely can't be in the city, which would make me sad, then at least have it somewhere where the light rail already connects to it. Exhibition Park or where the racetrack is currently or something. I dunno. The City just makes the most sense to me.

The thing with the Mariners, Charlesworth years ago wanted to invest heavily around the Stadium precinct there at Gosford but Council being too near sighted did not allow for this magnitude of investment so, he's been trying to detatch himself from the Mariners. Based on that then, why would another serious investor want to buy the Mariners?

Im not at all saying they would. However they are a largely community based organisation, which is what i mean by a smaller scale organisation.

For example, Sunshine coast or Hobart would fit into this category.

could see sunshine coast making a push with their new olympics stadium coming
I used to live on the Sunshine Coast, nice part of the world for the most part. They used to host pre-season tournament games in the early years of the ALM with the then Queensland Roar. I still remember seeing Charlie Miller and Simon Lynch for the first time in those games.

What are the Olympic's stadium plans for the Sunshine Coast?

I reckon CBR and TAS.

Then split into two 8 club divisions.

Then run the bollocks NST as a way of promotion and expanding the two divisions above.

Fremantle should be the next team to join the A-League and could be named the Fremantle Sailors, reflecting the city's rich naval heritage.

The area also boasts a strong footballing tradition, notably being the birthplace of Vas Kalogeracos. The team could form a close association with the Fremantle Dockers and host their matches at Fremantle Oval, fostering local sports unity and enhancing the area's sports culture.

It’s a no brainer.
Fremantle - population 31,000 - nice attempt at a wind-up.

You do realise that you don't need a Fremantle passport to support the team?

To follow Melbourne City do you have to live in Melbourne city? Lots of West Australians that live south of the river would identify themselves as Fremantledoms.

Up the Sailors!!! Freo, heav hooo!!!

Gold Coast NBL expansion:

potential for the Gold Coast council to cover 50% of the stadium costs, contingent on state government funding for the other half.

No one up there wants to fund football FFS.

Worst part is how Canberra keeps getting overlooked in the nbl too where it actually has support

I love the investments being made on the G Coast. Here's hoping football is one.

with the AIS Arena (4.5k seating) back up and running now, it should make a difference for the NBL. It's been tough for the Capitals with no proper home court while the AIS Arena has been closed. Eventually the indoor venue on the old civic pool site will be an even bigger indoor arena (10k seating) capable of hosting basketball so there will be size options for it in Canberra.

Are they actually doing that to the pool?

I do know they’ve started promoting upgrades to AIS area as the “Bruce Health, Sports and Education Precinct”, so expecting the stadium to finally be done, possible work to AIS Arena, plus hospital work and possible CIT redevelopment alongside anything planned at UC.
